To explain why Secretariat had unmatched speed AND endurance, an autopsy revealed that Secretariat's heart was 2 1/2 to 3 times the size if a normal horse. I think I read that somewhere, anyhow.
Anyways, I still think Secretariat's complete and utter dominance of the Belmont is the single most impressive feat in sports history. Consider the fact that Sham(who probably would have won the Triple Crown any other year) was a celebrated distance horse and Secretariat was supposedly a short track horse, and Secretariat absolutely destroyed the field by OVER 30 LENGTHS! You'll never see anything like that again.
