Justin couldn't breathe. Mentis had his arms locked like a vice around his windpipe and was squeezing for all he was worth. Justin could vaguely make out the sounds of the referee counting to five but it was moving much to slow. Darkness colored his vision and blood thundered in his ears. What if? No, that was a stupid idea. But what if? Nope, still a stupid idea. Mentis tightened his grip just a little bit more as the referee's count hit three. It was now or never. Justin reached back and hooked Mentis by the neck before he pushed off with his one good leg. This was such a stupid idea.
The pressure on his throat had ablated, but time still seemed to be moving way too slow. Falling is a weird sensation. For a split second, Justin considered trying to get his knees in place for the Adrenaline Rush. And for a split second his mind was filled with images of never walking again and adult diapers. It was two split seconds to long as both men connected with ringside floor. Pain shot up Justin's spine and his legs went wobbly as he reeled from the impact. He could only imagine how Mentis, who had hit head first, felt.
Justin tried to stand and was terrified to find that his legs would not obey him. Even more terrifying was the fact that Mentis was stirring and was already up to his knees. Justin was finally able to get his legs beneath him just as NCM was trying to get into the ring. Mentis saw him coming and aimed a kick at his head, but misjudged. Justin took a running leap and used Rhodes for momentum, shoving him back to the floor as he slid in just as the referee counted to ten. He'd done it, he'd won. Only three more matches to go. Great.
