Seeds of Life - Chapter 6
Nathan, his darker half only known as N. Saniti, and his beloved Kelli Starr all had gathered in N. Saniti's humble abode in the world of Balance to discuss their future plans for the impending war against the evil that has overcome the PCW world. Nathan, through his injuries, limps back and forth in frustration as they confab.
"Seromine and his followers. Lunacy and his Anarchy. Miss Black and her Darkness," listed Nathan with no absence of venom in his voice. "Three factions, all constantly vomiting their vitriol and causing unrest. Add to them the unstoppable Murdoc and the possibility of a reuniting Black Hand? Something MUST be done!" Nathan pounded his fist on a solid oak table, immediately regretting the move as his slung arm throbbed in protest. He even came very close to cursing aloud.
"And how, pray tell," hissed N. Saniti through a sneer of discontent, "do you propose we do that with you laid up and even more useless than before?"
Nathan spun and stomped towards his counterpart, his eyes aglow with anger. N. Saniti, unflinching, stood his ground. Sensing the conflict, Kelli rushed between the two, holding each at bay. "That's enough! Both of you!"
Kelli struggled briefly, then a surge of power through her body caused both men to lurch backwards unexpectedly. Each man looks astounded at what just transpired, though Nathan obviously took the worst of it due to his previous injuries. Kelli's hands flew to her face in shock, as she rushed to his side.
"OMIGOD! I'M SO SORRY!" After a few seconds of coddling, Nathan slowly stands, assuring Kelli of his condition. Kelli nervously brushes him off, then whisks over to do the same to N. Saniti, who views her more through the impressed eyes of a mentor.
As the silence in the air becomes nearly palpable, she places her hands on her hips scornfully. "How are we going to beat all of those *BLEEP*..." The sudden beeping that obscured her obscenity caught her off guard only slightly less than the black box that had materialized over her mouth and vanished with the word. "Did... Did I just get censored?"
*BLEEP*
Kelli turned to a mirror with an odd mixture of amusement and irritation, watching as the occurrence happened again and again every time she attempted to use her more colorful language.
*BLEEP* *BLEEPing* *BLEEPers*
"Kelli?"
*BLEEPety* *BLEEPing* *BLEEP* "me in my" *BLEEP*
"KELLI!"
She twisted around, her childish amusement evaporating with Nathan's stern look. "My dear, of all of your wonderful traits, that sort of language isn't forty-two of them." Kelli looked dejected, almost to the point of tears, which caused Nathan to bring her in for a tight embrace. "I love all of you with my last breath."
"Even my undesirable ones?"
"Especially your undesirable ones," cooed Nathan.
N. Saniti just rolled his eyes at the twitterpated pair. "Can we get on with this, or do you two have more creations to make?"
Kelli grinned impishly. "We'll get back to you on that."
Nathan unhugged his better half just as a spark of inspiration struck him. (It was far less lethal than lightning. Not quite as jolting, either.) "We need to gather the Harvesters."
Kelli donned her confused look. (It probably shrank in the wash. It didn't fit as well as it used to.) "The... Harvesters? You're going to feed the homeless at them?"
"That is merely a cover and a hobby for when we are inactive."
N. Saniti added, "The last time most of them were together was during the French Revolution." He turned his gaze to Nathan. "Are you sure that's wise, br..."
N. Saniti's last word was cut short by Nathan planting his cane onto the top of his right foot. Hard. Nathan stared daggers of precaution into N. Saniti that killed it where it had stopped. "We have no choice."
"So what's your idea then?" inquired N. Saniti.
"You shall go to PCW to take my place. Take Kelli and the other founding members. Do your best at Deadly Intentions to hold their evil at bay, and again at Trauma 200. Those who would do ill should know of their folly with such high profile shows back-to-back. Make sure they do."
"What about you?" Kelli questioned.
"My injuries are still too severe to be much help in that realm. Instead, I'll gather the others, and perhaps find the other Seeds of Life." Nathan reached into his coat, producing what looked like a baseball sized acorn, shimmering with its own bioluminescence.
Kelli stared at the pod, transfixed, as a feeling of calm and patience washed over her. She shook herself back into focus. "How will you find the rest of them?"
Nathan inserted the seed into his pocket. "That, my dear, is the part I'm unsure of. It does, however, give me a starting point for both quests. I shall have to pay the Baron a visit."
"Samedi?" objected N. Saniti. "Baron Samedi? You can't be serious. He'll turn on anyone on a whim. Including you."
"We all have our own set of rules to live by," excused Nathan. "We simply are not privy to his motivations. At this point, we have need of his expertise. Perhaps he'll join us..."
"...And perhaps I'd rather trust a rabid dog!"
"Precisely why I'm going and not you. You are needed in PCW. Your aggression and ability to out-think others will be a valuable asset in the arena."
Reluctantly, N. Saniti relented. Kelli's coaxing didn't precisely hurt, either. Satisfied, Nathan nodded in agreement. As N. Saniti attempted to take his leave, Nathan grabbed his arm. Nathan looked at Kelli softly. "Would you be so kind as to excuse us, my dear. I would like to have a word with my darker half before we set this plan into motion."
Nathan jerked N. Saniti away like a mother readying to discipline her offspring. Once they were out of earshot, he grabbed his other him by the shoulders, glaring holes into him. "You very nearly let slip our true relationship."
N. Saniti grinned sadistically. "Frightened of what Kelli would think if she found out?"
Nathan inhaled deeply. His head sunk in shame. "Yes."
"She's bound to figure out the truth sooner or later. Why not tell her? Why not tell her of how you were so threatened by me that you went to... extremes?"
"I shall. When the time is right, I shall tell her and she can decide for herself if she chooses to remain at my side. In the meantime, please," Nathan softened, nearly breaking down. "Don't fail her where I have. Be there for her. Protect her. Mentor her in her powers. Keep her safe. For both of us."
N. Saniti shook himself free. "Of course I will. She is The One, you know. Even she hasn't realized her full potential yet."
Nathan again nodded his approval, regaining his composure. "Good. Very, very good. Now, let's return to our beloved and set things in motion, shall we?"
"I'll join you in a second." Nathan left, leaving the solitary N. Saniti in his wake. "Brother," he muttered under his breath as he turned to rejoin the star-fated duo.
