Saniti rolls Seromine in place over the cardboard cutout of the crucifix, and he begins using hat pins to secure Seromine in an arms splayed out crucifix pose as he's laid out on the cardboard. The followers are going crazy on the outside, exhorting their Messiah to wake up.
Jerry Andrews: Interesting twist by Saniti! He's literally pinning Seromine to the crucifix with those hat pins!
Ace Anderson: I can’t believe what I'm seeing right now. This is either madness or brilliance.
Seromine offers no more resistance, and finally, Saniti steps back, holding his hands out in a magician’s flourish. The referee, noting that Saniti followed the letter of the law if not the spirit, deliberates before calling for the bell.
Nathan Saniti:I offer my enemies the mercy they wouldn’t offer me.
DING DING DING!
Sasha Greene: Here is your winner... and NEW UNIFIED INTERNATIONAL AND NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPION... NATHAN... SANITI!!
"Monster" by Imagine Dragons plays, and the entourage of Saniti comes out as Saniti is handed both belts. He can't lift his wounded, nailed hand from under his armpit, and he's bleeding quite profusely. Seromine's followers are in mourning at ringside, and some are trying to slide the cardboard cross with Seromine pinned on it out of the ring and pry him off.
The closing moments of the match were played for me as a constant reminder that I failed to defeat one of the biggest enemies to my cause. It was being played in my head. It wasn’t being watched online or on a television. It was The Trinity Mothers showing me the folly of failure. Indoctrinating it into me. I sat in the orchard, seeing the footage scanned across rows of withered trees. The footage began to fill with grain the more it got played. I wanted to shut my eyes and erase the event. But I couldn’t.
With a quick flick of the wrist, Delphinium halted the action. Pausing it on the very moment I was officially crucified like Christ. The trio circled around me. Their very aura was sending chills through my body. The air was ripe with the stench of decay.
“Seromiiine!” hissed Veratrum. “The end of one journey, preacher. The start of another. You were blessed that night of failure. THEIR WORLD...Seromiiine...caused you great pain. Great LOSS!”
“Why were you going to return to it? Did we not warn it was full of tormentors?!” This was Henbane looking through my eyes to see my soul. “Did we not offer the power of the seven seals?”
“He isn’t ready for it. No. But soon. Soon he shall be. And WE shall be saved! Seromiine! It’s time to be resurrected!”
Before I could process anything, they were gone. The orchard returned to it’s apple bearing life, looking healthier than ever before. My body felt rejuvenated! There had been some lingering residual effects from being crucified, but that was no longer the case. My eyes fluttered and I looked around, expecting this to be another dream.
It wasn’t.
As I stood up, I flipped my hands over to see the wounds were no longer there. “This can’t be real” I told myself, over and over. Once out of the orchard, I turned to look again. The only time the hidden trail to their lair would appear, is when they requested my audience. It wasn’t often. The only thing looking back at me were the trees and their gifts of life inside of them.
I accepted it and thought nothing more of the matter. I had enough on my mind as it was.
As I began the trek back to the house, glowing light from the vicinity of the Eternal Flame caught my attention. It would have to wait. I marched up to the front door and walked inside to a house basking in the light provided by candles. The interiors of the home were that of our house in Anaheim. So I was facing the living room. My children were gathered on the couch, looking at videos of my previous sermons.
I kissed each of them on the head and left them to it. They were entertained and in all likelihood laughing at them like an episode of America’s Funniest Home Videos. I walked past the kitchen and down the hallway to my bedroom. Candles rested on top of the dresser. That explains who lit all of them. Destiny was waiting. Her head titled to the side as she bit her bottom lip. She then gently ran her fingers along her braided pigtails. The seductive look in her eyes motioned towards the bed. I followed. She walked over and slowly crawled on. Her lips found mine for an embrace. I could feel her hands swimming along my torso.
“Good things come to those who wait...” she promptly told me with a wink. I couldn’t help but laugh at this. Teasing one another was something we liked to do occasionally. “You have company waiting in the groves.”
Yeah. I guess I did. So we both got off the bed and I jumped into my preacher outfit.
“By the way. You have a match.”
“I know. I asked for him specifically.”
“Hm.” she was annoyed. “I thought we agreed you--” now a sigh. “Nevermind.”
“He’s a SINNER! The earth realm is full of them. They either need to be saved or silenced. I nearly made a mistake and put us in danger by going back. It’s like you said. Good things come to those who wait.”
I put on my hat and gave her a quick kiss. Her hands cupped my face, but not to pull me for a continuation. “You’re sure you are ready? You’ve been erratic and indecisive lately...”
I smiled. “I’m more ready than ever before. Trust me.”
She nodded and mouthed “okay” to me.
And that was the end of that.
I made my way to the Eternal Flame minutes later. My original six followers had formed a prayer circle and were asking for safe passage for Judith and Lazarus to the kingdom of Heaven prior to my arrival.
“BROTHERS AND SISTERS!” I shouted with all the enthusiasm I could muster. “We are now in the dawning of a new beginning! Let us give thanks to God for navigating us across tempestuous waters! It was not without loss, but we made the passage and are now stronger for it!”
PRAISE SEROMINE! PRAISE THE LORD!
“I HEARD things from satan’s forked tongue loud and clear. That vile deception was meant to pull the lost away from truth and into a life of suffering. Something my opponent would know all about.”
“Who is it, Father?” asks Esther.
“Whitey Ford!”
That drew strong condemnation from everyone. They looked amongst one another, disgusted by the very sound of his name.
“Yes my children, the poster child for alcoholism! His ways are of the drink! His ways are of drugs! He is an abhorrent monster. A World Champion. How very appropriate. My faithful can not allow themselves to be tricked into thinking he is a man of honor. It is written in Proverbs Chapter Twenty, Verse One. Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise.”
HE’S THE CHAMPION OF SIN!
That becomes a chant they entrance themselves with. It only grows louder and louder as I bask in the truth.
“Brothers and sisters. Regardless if I win. Regardless if I lose. Whitey Ford will pay for his transgressions in our match. But God tells me even the most wicked can be saved, and so we must try! He will have ONE chance to repent his ways...or be put down for them.”
PRAISE SEROMINE! PRAISE THE LORD!
