So Dominator / Mortimer made a comment in his Trauma 214 Feedback that caught my eye... I don't think that there was a single bad RP this week. I think that the stuff that comes out from you guys in around 2000 words or so is mindblowing! Now, before I continue I’d like to make it known that this is not a critique of anyone’s RP style. And for everyone to remember that, according to A Ghost in the Wind himself, when it comes to RP ‘ depth’ – “I tend to look at roleplays, and their length, like they are chapters in books…some chapters are longer than others, but all that matters is the quality of the story. It’s always quality over quantity, remember that.” Anyone paying attention will have seen that some of our most recent members write RPs that are noticeably longer than what we’re used to seeing in PCW. Is that the trend out there in the efedding world these days, and those of us who have been insulated in PCW for the last 5-10+ years here just aren’t aware of it? Or is it only a coincidence that you have all just happened to show up at once?

Anyone paying attention will have seen that some of our most recent members write RPs that are noticeably longer than what we’re used to seeing in PCW. Is that the trend out there in the efedding world these days, and those of us who have been insulated in PCW for the last 5-10+ years here just aren’t aware of it? Or is it only a coincidence that you have all just happened to show up at once? I think PCW may be a bit of a unicorn in that we actively DISCOURAGE lengthy RPs. Many of those who have followed me here from other feds (or as a side fed, as the case may be), such as Dean, Bryan, and John, all come from the same background as I do, where the higher up in the card you get, the longer the RPs tend to get, either by requirement or design. We also all started in a fed where it wasn't unusual to do an RP per day, and the person who wrote the longest ones usually won. Another aspect that is unique in PCW (that I honestly enjoy) is the fact that trash talk sections are not only not required, but even frowned upon, it seems. (Though I admit, I enjoy writing trash talk as Fierce and sometimes as Looney.) As to whether that is a "trend," I can't say. I do believe it is more the norm though. I WILL say that the fact that the above mentioned things are what attracted me to PCW and kept me here all this time.

Back when I first started RPing back in the late 90's, there were times where I was RPing as a tag team where I would post 4 roleplays a DAY with no word limit. For all the time I have been writing, the limits have steadily decreased over the years, but when you are accustomed to writing at those sort of lengths, it's a difficult habit to get out of.
Whereby in older feds there would be limitless RPs where the word count could be anything between 5000 and 10000 words (sometimes even more), the more recent feds have had limits of, say, 4000 words max. Then, even more recently, some matches I would write at 1500 word limits at the bottom end of the card, while higher up the card would be more like 3000 to 4000. My most recent run with a character (Lucas Felix in WGWF) was where he was involved at the top of the card, winning tournaments and heavily involved in the World Title picture. Basically, the higher up the card you were, the higher word limits you had. Dan summed it up pretty well in his post, to be fair.
About a month ago, we took part in a one-off Reunion show where the likes of myself, Dan, Dean, Bryan and loads of the other guys that we've fedded with over the years put up some great RPs. I entered as FOUR different characters, each with different RP Limits. At the high end of the card, I entered Dominator with a "prototype" roleplay for his current gimmick with a No Limit count. That RP was nearly between 8000 and 9000 including trash talk. Then I had my character Mighty Kid as well as writing for Dean's character, Bill Blakk (since they were a team back in the day and Dean had other commitments with other characters) with 3000 words EACH. Finally, I had Lucas Felix at a mere 2000 Word Limit.
The only reason my Dominator RP won was because my opponents both no-showed and I lost my Mighty Kid/Bill Blakk match (the opponents just put out a better pair of roleplays, plus I was running on fumes by that point... just trying to justify myself here! lol) But with my Lucas Felix RP, at 2000 words, I felt that, in my gut, I had written the better roleplay out of all four. Don't get me wrong, I was pleased with all four RPs, but it was the shortest RP that was actually the strongest out of the lot.
If that didn't scream to me "quality over quantity" then I don't know what would.
But at the same time, if you have a story to tell, you want to write with as few restrictions as possible. As I said to Dan the other day, I had rewritten this weeks' roleplay a couple of times because I found that the original story that I had WRITTEN was not the story that I wanted to TELL. I was 2000 words deep into the rewrite and I was only at the halfway point through the story when I realised just how much I'd actually written. I cut back on some stuff and saved some things for another time, but having to go back and slim down your story without cutting out key points, ironically, is something that I was used to doing even with the higher limits!
If an RP is long because you are "drivelling," then yes, you deserve to be docked points. But if you write, say, a roleplay that is 2500 words long, slightly above average by PCW standards, but every single word is valid and contributing towards the bigger picture, then should you be penalised for that little bit of extra length if there are no official "limits" put in place?
Sorry, I'm rambling a little bit and I don't mean for this post to sound as confrontational as it looks. This is simply my honest thoughts on the matter. At the end of the day, there will always be pros and cons about word limits, but as think so long as the guidelines are not abused on a regular basis, then that is fine with me. And if boundaries are being stretched, the management should tell the handler of that character and offer a suggestion on how they can change for next time.
I'm still rambling... I'll be quiet now...

While I'm not one of our judges, I honestly this a person should write until that part of the story feels complete.

I believe very long RPs have been the norm in efedding for quite some time. PCW.... errr.... PURE CLASS WRESTLING WITH NO INITIALS just hasn't followed the trend.
