Matthews Plans to Auction Title
The Greenvile News Gazette (Sports Columnist Jason Azaria)
Greenville, SOUTH CAROLINA Feb 2 (Business News) – Wrestling talent Jonathan Matthews, better known as Johnny Vivacious on Pure Class Wrestling’s Tuesday night tapings, is rumored to have declined signing an extension with the local promotion.
Matthews, along with his wife Stace Matthews, signed a thirty-day probationary contract with Pure Class Wrestling (PCW) on January 4, 2006. Since that time, as reported by Matthew’s representation and PCW financial advisors, attendance at the Tuesday tapings has doubled when compared to the prior quarter’s attendance reports.
“The attendance on the night Johnny debuted was fifty-percent capacity.” Burt Dutton, Matthews talent agent, reported. “The second week, when Club Vivacious debuted, they had to open floor space closer to the ramp to accommodate the ticket sales.”
These statements were further proven after PCW released their attendance reports. Some claim that PCW’s meteoric rise in attendance is based on far more than Matthews arrival, including the arrival of Justin “Stormm” Michaels and his rivalry with PCW World Champion, Ace Anderson.
“I’ve said it for weeks.” Matthews commented. “I pack arenas and I want to see a part of the financial result before I agree to any extension.”
For a guy that has allegedly double attendance, view rates and merchandise sales Matthews claims that he has lost more money since signing with PCW. Nearly $75k for a promotional appearance that went bad, $6k for property damages at a PCW house show event and close to $100k in traveling expenses.
The thirty-day probationary contract is up on February 4, this Sunday, when coincidentally Matthews as Johnny Vivacious will lock up with Non Compos Mentis for the PCW North American Championship.
“If I win and they [PCW] don’t agree with my terms I’ll auction the belt at eBay!” Matthews announced. “Thus far, they haven’t agreed to my terms.”
How much would you pay for the title? You could be bidding sooner than you think according to Matthews.
If the Matthews walk away from negotiations PCW will lose, if nothing else, a long standing family-name cornerstone of the business. If the two sides do come to terms, what else do the PCW fans have to look forward to from the man they love to hate on a weekly basis?
