Is this even a serious question? HBK's match at Wrestlemania trumps anything Santino Marella has ever done, with the possible exception of the trombone.

But if this is "of the year", does someone who wasn't active 2/3 of the year really qualify?

But if this is "of the year", does someone who wasn't active 2/3 of the year really qualify? A guy who had easily one of the top three matches of the year, probably the feud of the year, and went out with a retirement speech that wasn't overdone, in great taste, and didn't go back on his word like someone else who got the greatest sendoff in history. Against someone who, as much as I like him, is basically a joke. I mean, 2/3 of the year retired vs. 2/3 of the year as a funny jobber. It qualifies in this vote.

...and didn't go back on his word like someone else who got the greatest sendoff in history. Ric Flair might have gone back on his word that he'd never wrestle in the mainstream again, but as most people would say, Ric Flair has been one of the best things in TNA this year, and at 61 years of age to have had what was one of the most brutal matches of the year, outside of the indies, with Mick Foley the week before Bound for Glory the guy can't do much more to prove that he still has it. Cause Ric Flair, even at 61 years of age, still has it.

But that guy still got the greatest sendoff I've ever seen, and then it just felt like he spat on it by coming back.

Ric Flair has pissed all of his finances down the drain. WWE basically forced him out. I thought it was fairly obvious he'd be back as soon as he realized he wasn't going to be able to make the alimony payments.

True, but honestly I think the fans were happier to see him back. Ric Flair trading "woo's" with Jay Lethal was one of the best segments of the year this year, he got so many people over aswell. What Ric is doing, is what others should do, realize that your time is up and let everyone else get over by taking a step on you. Like Jay Lethal, Matt Morgan and Doug Williams.

I thought it was fairly obvious he'd be back as soon as he realized he wasn't going to be able to make the alimony payments. The guy was getting 10 grand per personal appearance, plus 30-35 dollars per autograph and 30 dollars a picture. That was just at one show that I attended shortly after his retirement. I don't think he was hurting that badly.

Touche'... I was in wrestling at the time so I wasn't really paying any attention to the goings-on. Having been through a divorce myself, I can empathize.

Yeah, it's no biggie...I still agree with you he shouldn't have made such a spectacle of himself "retiring" when he knew he'd be back. It's Ric Flair though, he's always been an attention-whore. Dude loves the spotlight.

I met Flair in person once. He was a prick. But to be fair, I'm sure arriving two hours late for an autograph session for thousands of people could put one on edge.
