The Dark Arcana: Chapter 19 – The Sun
(Sorry about the brevity of this RP guys and gals. I keep forgetting that PPV RP Deadline is a day earlier. *HATE*)
Nathan and Kelli explore a picturesque, yet somehow unique in the bright colors and unusual appearances of the plants. There were tiger lilies prowling as far as their roots would allow them to go after their favorite prey, Dandelions. Mind you, they weren’t attempting to devour them, just have a good old cat fight. The lovers made their way down the cobblestone trail, apparently having a somewhat heated discussion about all things stately.
The beautiful woman, driving some of the flowers to turn green with envy of her looks, seemed downtrodden from their discussion. The man, though a bit off-put by her viewpoint, appeared to attempting to reassure her that he was perfectly happy with her the way she was. His words fell unheard, which pissed off the ants, who were trying to clean up the place.
A stalk of slapweed snickered as Kelli passed, smacking her directly on the backside. Nathan’s eyes darkened in a way that was all too familiar to Kelli from her encounters with the Nathan from the mirror world. He grasped the stalk, flames of anger shooting from his eyes. “Fresh produce! I’ll teach you to lay your petals on the fairer persuasion!”
In his rage, he began to tear it from the earth. A soft hand gently found his, causing his ire to leave as suddenly as it had appeared. “NATHAN! STAHP!” His glower met her soft gaze, dousing the coals of his frustration. His anger subsiding, he released the agonizing flora, lowering his head in absolute shame. “It didn’t hurt me.”
They stopped at a gigantic blue polka dotted mushroom, taking a seat whilst they continued. “I’m so sorry, my dear. I don’t know what overcame me. I suppose it’s the stress of this whole thing with Rasputin and your sister Iska. Add the Black Hand to the equation, and I may very well be having a breakdown. I very nearly had Mr. Grimm fought to a standstill last week, including a proper fish slapping, and now I feel I may have put you in danger. Nay, I may have put US in danger.”
“From the Black Hand?” she cooed soothingly. “Sure Grimm and Sadistic are super scary, and Showtime is all, ‘RAWR! I are ferocious psycho manz,’ but I don’t think we’ll be in that much danger. We have Eira to help us.”
“The other wild card to be watched is our special guest referee, Mr. Cosmos.”
“Why?” Kelli puzzled.
“To put it bluntly and indiscreetly, I trust him about as far as I could comfortably defecate a live rat.”
Kelli was gob smacked by Nathan’s verbiage for a few seconds. Then she burst out into a full belly laugh, falling off of the fungus and onto the garden floor. Nathan furrowed his brows, not quite registering what the jolly time was over. Then it hit him like a sack of fish. Mostly because said sack had gotten away from a fellow garden traveler, bringing home a quarry of weapons for the following week’s jousting. Had he not been greedy and began practicing with the entire bag all at once, the accident may not have taken place. But I digress. After Karma had dealt Nathan a blow of her own, his thoughts began to clarify and he joined his beloved in a hearty guffaw.
“You see, my dear? My appearance may be gentlemanly, as are my mannerisms most of the time, yet even I do slip up once in a while. It could explain why this little stroll is running so close to the final grains of sand.” Nathan assisted Kelli up as she wiped a grateful tear of laughter from her eyes, being very cautious not to smear her makeup.
“So what should we do?” Kelli brushed herself off, Nathan assisting with care not to brush anything too personal away. “How do we defeat them?”
“My dear, I only hope for survival at this point.” He paused and smiled, “But we shall give them a proper thumping in the meantime either way. Win, lose, or draw, Psychadelica alongside Miss Eira shall show the Black Hand that they are nothing to fear, and if things turn ugly, then we shall demonstrate that we too can get as dirty as the Horrors of Hangtown.”
