The sea air felt cool and damp on the surface of the pirate's face, and the glow of street lamps was all that stood between him and total darkness. It was quiet, much too quiet for the time of night that it was, and High Tide being a pirate was an expert at the ways of the sea at night. Not even a single sea bird called out, and there was no smell of smoke and booze, which was always to be expected. It wasn't as if there was no ships along the shore, there were more than a couple small crafts, and this area was a well known hideout.
As he walked, the silence left him only with his thoughts, an unpleasant reality. After the last match his confidence was shattered. They should have been able to win it, but they hadn't. It was to be expected of course because such was the cycle he was in. However he had no interest in leaving his Underground Title within the reaches of Judge or Bubba. Either man could pull out a slippery victory, and Tide did not want to reach that level of depth like he had once before. A level of despair that only the drink and some serious violence could fix.
A small beam of light appeared in the far distance and Tide smiled despite the wind battering his body. It was going to rain soon, and so the sooner the ship arrived the better. Immediately after he and Wasp had lost their match, Tide had put out rumblings on the street and on the ships. Whispers, promises, treats, just little glimpses of a former glory. He did not need everyone running towards him at once, for rebuilding what had once been a successful organization would take time and a huge influx of people would create mass confusion. However there had been one contact who's services he had needed and had scouted the contact out very quickly.
The boat was clearly not the regular craft, probably a rented speedboat knowing how they operated, Tide thought as the boat slowed upon it's approach. “You're a lucky man today High Tide, I've found exactly what you're looking for, but it won't be cheap,” a sing song voice came from somewhere inside the ship, and Tide could only smile as the tall red headed women stepped forth from inside the cabin. Her fair face was lit up with a smile, and although High Tide found her beautiful and would usually take the chance to ogle such a spectular specimen of pirate, he found his eyes darting directly to her hands, where she held out an ordinary brown sack.
“Cut Lass, is it ever cheap with you? And I mean the above the sea level goods,” Tide chirped back in reply, his laughter genuine. Ah if only the PCW “Superstars” could see how positively boring their banter was compared to that of pirates, Tide thought to himself. “Besides what is it anyways? I didn't send you out with the most specific of requests,” Tide added a look of concern creasing his normally playful face.
“I'll let that pass for I have other business to attend to this night and I will not be delayed. I go where the gold is, you no doubt understand. However to answer your question, it's an elixir. I acquired it from one of my contacts who usually buys from me. He is a buyer you see and so his price was not cheap, I almost could not get him to part with it. I can see you're not happy about not having a name, but you trust me do you not? Of course you do, or you wouldn't have sent for me. I know the man and deal with him on a regular basis, it is what he says it is, and that is an elixir found in a treasure cache from an unnamed pirate of old. It came an inscription though “Ye who drinks this, will grow in strength”. He claims to have used some and says it does just that, and I am inclined to believe him,” Cut Lass the pirate spoke quickly, her tone all business and no pleasure.
Tide thought about it for a moment, and then nodded. “How much?” he asked because really there was never a question of if he would purchase it, but only the price.
“Two hundred gold coins and that's me taking a cut in my finder's fee because I know this is important for your match,” she said cool as a cat, never blinking or letting up for a second, and was one of the few pirates Tide was glad not to have as an enemy.
“Steep but I'll...” he started but she spoke again.
“And fifty percent of your winnings from the match against those two buffoons should this elixir work,” she quickly needled in right as Tide was about to seal the deal and this made his eyes nearly bulge out of his head. It was starting to rain now and the small but annoying droplets of water were starting to bother him now. He didn't have time for this.
“Twenty five percent and not a single percent more,” he stated firmly going into his pocket and counting out the appropriate amount of gold. Cut Lass looked at him for a moment and nodded, tossing him the elixir as he tossed her the tightly drawn bag of coins. Both quickly checked to make sure the trade was not a deception and then satisfied, Cut Lass sped her boat off back in the direction she had came in, without another word.
Tide grabbed the bottle, the elixir of strength and smiled. It was some sort of strong glass, a brilliant purple colout, like lilacs viewed on LSD, the pirate thought to himself, a fleeting memory of the past rushing through his head. He pulled the stopper out and looked inside. The liquid was an ugly brown, but Tide did not hesitate one moment before tilting the bottle back and swigging half the liquid in one go.
It burnt something fierce going down, and Tide coughed and spluttered and did all he could to prevent forcing a lung out through his mouth. It was bitter, that was as much as he could taste through the burning, and he had made sure to put the stopper back on so as not to accidentally spill the other dose that he would save for another time.
He felt nothing at first, but he knew the moment it took hold inside him. He didn't know quite how to describe it. It was as if his chest swelled up, a rippling energy inside, and as if has heart had grown. He felt the fatigue from the training the morning disappear, as if the edge had been taken off and it was there but not bothering him. Most of all, his confidence was sky high. How he laughed those seconds after it took affect, loud and uninhibited, even as distant people yelled back for his disturbance causing. Oh how he pitied Judge and Bubba for stepping in the ring with him.
To top it all off, he thought as he made his way to find the nearest bar, the only other elixir that he needed, Wasp was expected to be at ring side. Did PCW management never learn? Did they expect that one Sea Man would leave another stranded? Beached? Oh no, he snickered to himself, smiling, they were not there to play clean and fair, but only for him to retain his title, and he felt really good about his odds of doing just that.
