It's a busy day at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Doctors,Nurses and hospital staff are bustling about
doing their duties as normal but little do they know that today would bring in a most unusual patient.
"Ok we need a doctor here!"
A shout comes from the glass double doors that cover the entrance to the hospital where a large man is being wheeled in on a big stretcher by four attendants who are struggling to push it into the emergency room.
"Come on damn it I need help here!"
A bit more urgent this time the call comes again albeit this time with a hint of annoyance and frustration.
A tall thin man in his late 30's with blonde hair and glasses rushes over and looks down at the stretcher and frowns.
"Hello Sir, my name is Dr Smith. What brings you in here today?"
The large man grunts in pain and his face screws up as well.
"Wait a second I know you! Your Hiroshi Yukio the sumo wrestler who wrestles for PCW! My son loves you! We went to see you wrestle last week when you defended your Underground Championship against Q!"
Despite being in great pain Hiroshi smiles and nods politely before speaking in his deep bass voice.
"Yes I am he. And that is why I am here today. I believe that during that match I may have injured myself somehow and I chose to come here because I can't risk further hurting myself,"
"Ok Mr Yukio what seems to be the problem?
"As I was leaving the ring I heard a loud pop and the next thing I knew I was unable to stand and had to be helped to the back by the ring crew.
The next day the area around my knee had swollen to twice it's size and walking became impossible.
I know it's something serious but I'm not sure what..."
"Mr Yukio what you are describing to me sounds like a torn ACL.
The anterior cruciate ligament is one of four ligaments that help stabilize the knee. It is the most commonly injured knee ligament.
ACL injury usually occurs when the knee is hyperextended (straightened) and a pivot occurs simultaneously. The injury may occur with or without contact.
I'll need to examine you and get an MRI to confirm this but once we do we can being treatment and rehabilitation as soon as possible."
Hiroshi's face saddens as he hears this knowing this will mean a lot of time away from the two things he loves most, competition and his fans!
"How long will I be out of the ring doctor?" Hiroshi asks
"I'd say 6-9 months at the most. It's a long hard recovery but with perseverance you will be able to wrestle again." Dr Smith replies
"But I have a title defence this week against Tyrone Smith! I can disappoint my fans and I can't loose my championship !"
"Mr Yukio I would strongly advise you not to get in the ring this week and aggravate your injury further."
Dr Smith speaks sternly.
Hiroshi glumly nods and lays back down on the stretcher as they wheel him down to the MRI.
This is not the end! He thinks to himself. I am a warrior and I will not fall yet! I assure you this ,PCW has not seen the last of me!
