Kelli rounds the corner to the main office, halting as she sees a massive form rising from one of the leather chairs. 6'7" worth of muscle bound man strides her way, a look of concern on his face.
"Everything go okay at the meeting?"
She smiles. "Yep. Everything is all set. First court date is in the morning."
"Are you going to be alright? This could cost you EVERYTHING, Kelli."
"It could, but I think I'll be okay. How often does a corrupt business owner DEMAND federal investigation? Even my lawyer says that actually looks good in a situation like this."
"Some folks say it's a sleazy cover up."
"Yeah well." she frowns. "I can't waste all my time worrying about what some folks say."
"What about Fierce? He had some stuff to say."
She grins. "He did, didn't he? I kinda like him. And oh my GOD that man is just so... man pretty!"
"He's really, really, really not your type. Or more correctly, YOU aren't HIS type."
Giggling, Kelli shakes her head. "I'm all Nathan's, but... doesn't mean I can't enjoy grappling with an attractive guy, right?"
"So is this match for that tournament? The Icemann Invitational?"
"No, I managed to win that match!" Her smile fades. "Against Q."
"I saw that... it was a good match. You two put on a damn good show, and treated each other with the utmost of respect."
"Well... he's my friend. I just hope I can keep talking to him. I haven't seen him since that match. Whispered rumors are saying he left." Her eyes water a tiny bit. "Again."
"Hey, maybe Fierce can be a new friend for you. He's weird, right?"
She shrugs. "He said we're gonna wrestle, and then we're gonna go shoe shopping. I seriously can't argue with that. If he throws in an ice cream sundae, I'll be his best buddy FOREVER."
"Are we gonna be okay, Kelli?" Harris gazes at her, the concern in his eyes deepening. "It's just, there's Maya, and if things happen I have to make sure..."
Kelli offers a warm smile at the reminder of Mark's wildly creative, perceptive, intelligent little girl. "You, and Maya, are going to be just fine. We'll pull through this, I promise. But right now, I gotta go take care of some stuff. It's getting late and all."
"Comparing your collection against what you wanna buy when you head out with Fierce?"
"No way! Haven't you seen 'Queer Eye for a Straight Guy'? If he's offering to go shoe shopping with me, dude probably knows what I need better than I do."
Harris chuckles, waving his hand helplessly at her. "Fine, fine. I'm glad things are going better. Just be careful, okay?" He smiles a reassurance to her. "Don't want you getting trounced before a big shopping trip."
Kelli grins back and skips away, pink curls bouncing on her shoulders. She enters her room with a flourish, everything exactly as she'd left it. Sitting on the edge of her bed, she gazes straight at the full length mirror in front of her.
"Heyyy gorgeous. Ready for some you and me time?"
Her reflection mimics her cheesy grin, the smile fading as Kelli tries to remember the instructions Nathan had given her. Fidgeting, she glancing away from the mirror and back again. "He said it would be easy to do..."
Stepping over a minefield of crayons, coloring books, and candy wrappers, Kelli sets her violent violet manicured fingertips on either side of the full length mirror. A bonus find at a local thrift store, the elaborate scrollwork bordering the silvered glass was nothing short of gorgeous. Kelli had spent weeks stripping off the tacky olive green paint. A soft smile curves her lime green lips as she traces the strange figures in the frame.
Painted a soft baby pink now, with the word "WHORE" scrawled lovingly on the top of it with pink lipstick, but still. Super classy.
Closing her eyes, she reaches deep inside to find her center. The tug of a glimmering thread assists her, the core of her being thrumming with her raw, untapped potential.
"Please. I just need to do this. Let me find it."
Reaching further with her mind, she sets both hands flat on the mirror in front of her.
"Balance."
As the word tumbles from her lips, she feels the mirror... change. Giving way like a heavy dough, the surface gave beneath the gentle pressure and wrapping itself around her body as she moves forward. Eyes still closed, she walks through the mirror itself, feeling it leave her body with the effervescent pop of a rainbow bubble. Eyes opening, a delighted laugh rings through the strawberry scented air.
"I did it! I'm HERE!"
Looking around she can't help the smile on her face, having successfully created a permanent, physical portal into her world with Nathan. One night as they lay in each other's arms, sweaty but exhilarated from another round of impassioned lovemaking, Nathan had explained to her how he saw their world as a Balance, a blend of not only themselves but the light and dark within the two. She had taken to calling it Balance as well, for no single word could encompass the wonders they'd created.
Wandering a bit, she passes the twisted purple trees marking the border between one of the most Nathan feeling zones with the darkness beyond. She knew He was nearby, but not how close. She only hoped he wouldn't find her on her brief errand. Turning around, she makes her way back, the sky behind her a blaze of color as the sun began to set. Eyes searching, they widen as they catch sight of the portal - an oblong showing the interior of her room!
"Huh. Well. I don't know what I was expecting but... so they can like, see me? If I'm changing? Or sleeping?"
Glancing around, she rubs at her upper arms, the temperature shift of the darkening sky making her uncomfortably chilly amidst a growing sense of unease.
"It'll be fine. I'm sure it'll be fine."
Kelli steps back through, the same feeling of being enveloped by warm, melted marshmallow bringing an involuntary smile to her face as she pops back through to the other side.
"It really does work!" Waving a hand across her mirror, the smile deepens as it closes the view of nightfall on Balance, obediently reflecting her room back at her. "I guess that closes it off, huh. Well. Court in the morning, might as well head to bed."
Slipping her glittery white t-shirt off over her head, she unsnaps her bra (38 DD, in case anyone was wondering) and shucks her blue snakeskin pants to the floor. Tugging her nightgown over her head, she turns her back on the mirror to shift her blankets, the babydoll nightie shifting up past her hips. As she turns the light out and crawls into bed, she drifts quickly to sleep...
...unaware of the covetous eyes watching her every move.
"Everything go okay at the meeting?"
She smiles. "Yep. Everything is all set. First court date is in the morning."
"Are you going to be alright? This could cost you EVERYTHING, Kelli."
