The road to the future leads us smack into the wall – Jacques Cousteau
They have this term in running, mostly in long distance stuff like Marathons, called ‘The Wall’. It’s actually a difficult thing to explain, but basically it happens when you run out of energy in the body and it decides to try and completely shut down on you. One second you’re running fine and the next… blam! You hit the wall and you just want to drop right then and there. The only two choices when you hit the wall are to fight on with every ounce of strength you have left or give in and drop right then and there.
In professional wrestling we also use the term ‘The Wall’ but ours refers to a giant of a man who you run into and blam you bounce off him straight away. A veritable powerhouse and resilient competitor who even the toughest and strongest of competitors struggle to actually take down. In PCW, we call this wall Murdoc…
Or Machine, he’s a pretty big wall to. But I think he went back to Germany where he originally came from[or was created in]
When it comes to a professional wrestling ‘wall’ there are also two choices available to you, you either fight on with every ounce of strength you have left or you get squashed flatter than a pancake. And for those of you who have been paying attention to my career will most likely know that strength isn’t exactly my greatest… attribute.
Be honest, you thought I was going to end that sentence with ‘strength’ didn’t you?
Ok, I’ll be honest, I almost did.
Since I can’t out power Murdoc, or hell even remotely match him, then I have to use my other tools at my disposal, my speed. I have to move around the ring at a lighting pace. I have to be exactly where Murdoc doesn’t expect me at the exact moment I need to be there. I have to move from one side of the ring to the other in a blink of an eye.
And that tactic worked out so well for Justin Kaard recently.
See the problem with facing Murdoc is he’s not just a veteran of the ring, but a veteran of that specific ring. He’s been around PCW so long that only some of the walls in the PCW arena have been around longer than he has, what with most of the actual furniture and electrical fittings having been replaced over the years due to modernisation.
To make matters harder on me, Murdoc is heading out of our match and into a PPV Main Event for the World Championship. Now some may think that means he could hold back, make sure he’s 100% going into that match. But I know you use this warm up match to make sure everything is in peak condition, that all the joints are adequately limbered up and that it you do have any minor problems with your body that you discover during the match, you got a couple of weeks to get them checked and healed up ready for the mach.
That means I don’t expect Murdoc to hold anything back. Especially when he could probably swat me like the fly I might appear to him. He’s going to do everything he can to not only defeat me, but to make it look easy. Show to all the fans, the back and most importantly to Grimm that he’s not only worth of the title shot, but he’s going to take that damn belt and walk off with it when Deadly Intentions is all over. Me? All I can be is a pothole in the road and hope I can make him stumble a bit.
Man that metaphor disappeared on me half way through.
But I mean what choice do I have against a man who’s going to feel like steel to hit, who has punches like sledgehammers, who’s physical endurance is beyond measure, who’s ring awareness is so finely tuned he could be psychic. What choice do I have going one on one against Murdoc?
Only one real choice. Hit the wall and fight on through.
