There she stood in the doorway
Kelli drops her head back onto the seat rest, staring up at the darkening sky above. Stars were already dotting the sky, five-pointed and glowing, as though a child had drawn them and dreamed them into reality. Enjoying the lingering effects of the closest thing she'd ever get to a drug again, she sighs and straightens her head to see where they were headed. Nathan slows his hatmobile to a reasonable in-city speed, in the most non-city she'd ever seen. Not in the same universe PCW inhabited, at least. Their destination became clear as the vehicle rolled to a stop, a graceful woman, resplendent in all shades of crimson, red, incardine, pink - feathers and jewels, crystals and filigree adorning her form as she stands in the central building's arched doorway.
I heard the mission bell
A clanging noise fills the air, a large bell like one found in churches striding purposefully through the streets on sturdy wooden legs. Kelli watches it go by, bemused.
"...What the fuck even, sweetheart?" She turns to look at Nathan, large jade eyes blinking at him.
"It's a bell, but stay out of its way - it's on a mission."
Kelli quietly mouths the words "mission bell" to herself, shaking her head.
"What exactly are we doing here?" She shoots a hasty glance to the woman in the doorway. "I mean... go say hello?"
Nathan's voice drops in pitch. "This is where we find Lust."
And I was thinking to myself
She giggles, the tingly euphoria still tickling her brain. Lust, huh? Maybe I'll get his pants off again. Or maybe my great uncle and Naomi will get freaky. Or maybe...
Her face goes stoic, the humor and smile erasing from it as she realizes their situation.
Nathan nods. "This could go one way or the other, depending on how we do. You MUST NOT be tempted, Kelli, this is critical."
'This could be heaven or this could be Hell
Kelli nods her understanding. "I'll do my best. I can't think of anything in there that will tempt me."
The rest of the thought stays unspoken in her mind:
But I'm afraid there's something in there just for me all the same.
