So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” - John 4:48
He stumbled back through the door of his darkened apartment. Shuffling through the darkness, he placed the Pure Class Wrestling Underground Title on a makeshift alter, then lit a candle beside it.
He knew this day would come. The Lord had prophesized greatness for him and finally it was on its way to coming true. Of course, the Underground Title is nothing to be proud of. It represents so much that is wrong with the world today. But it is a step. After many setbacks, it is a step in the right direction.
This championship would let the Lord see that he was right in choosing Gabriel to be saved. It would prove to him that Gabriel was worthy of his time and his love.
Gabriel thought briefly about what this moment would mean to Rick Majors.
Championship gold had eluded Rick Majors for his entire run in Pure Class Wrestling. The last time he held a professional wrestling title was in 2010. The sport had passed him by. Yet he remained, clutching at straws and grabbing at any possible glimpse of his former glory. He wanted to be relevant. He wanted to be part of something.
Rick Majors still lived in a time, ten years ago, when he was on top of the wrestling world. Every day of his life, he would wake up and wish for that time. Kelly was still his wife. He still had youth and optimism and success. But it wasn’t a decade ago. And Rick Majors could never quite deal with that.
If Rick Majors had been the one holding the Underground Title right now, he would be in tears. That belt would have meant something to him. He would believe that the struggle to get to it and the blood spilled along the way would have been worth it. He would be wondering if Kelly had been watching. He would have hoped that she was. Deep down, he still loved her and he desperately hoped that she still loved him.
All Rick Majors had in the world was wrestling. And even that had started to leave him. He couldn't take it. He was weak. Majors would have clung to this Underground Title like grim death. He would have used it to hold onto the past. He would see it as a sign that he could still have a future.
Rick Majors was an emotional mess and an incredible disappointment. Gabriel was glad that he was dead.
Such a pathetic fool did not deserve life. All he did was wander aimlessly, looking for acceptance. Looking for a purpose. Looking for love.
Gabriel has found love. He has found acceptance. And he has certainly found a purpose. His only objective in life right now is to destroy the sadistic magician who dared to hurt the Lord. Of course, that is if Seromine himself doesn’t rip Nathan Saniti’s heart out first.
Whatever’s left of Nathan Saniti will stagger into the ring against Gabriel at Return to Glory. And, if the demonic magician can still manage to stand after facing Seromine, Gabriel will rip him limb from limb. Violence is a plague that destroys the soul. Vengeance is for the petty. Anger is evil. Except in this case. In this case, Gabriel knew that anything he did would be justified. Nathan Saniti tried to take the Lord away, not just from Gabriel, but from everyone. The world needs Seromine. The world needs The Lord. The world needs to be rid of Nathan Saniti.
As for the piece of tin sitting atop the alter, Gabriel would try to hold onto it as a symbol. It would show that Seromine maintained a grip on Pure Class Wrestling that would never be broken.
The Lunatic that would face off against him this week him would have Nathan Saniti’s face. It would be a testing ground for Gabriel. It would be a dress rehearsal. Pure Class Wrestling wants the Underground to be violent and primal and disgusting. They are going to get it. Lunatic hasn’t done a thing wrong. But he is going to be tortured. He is going to be brutalized. He will suffer pain worse than he ever thought possible. Gabriel has to send a message. To Nathan. And to Seromine.
Do not FUCK with the Lord.
But Lunatic will be left alive. Despite Gabriel wanting to kill him to show Nathan just how serious he is, Gabriel will not take Lunatic’s life. No, he will be spared. But this is not mercy. No, this is a statement. Gabriel wants Lunatic to crawl back through the curtain after the match. He wants his beaten and bloody body to be displayed in front of the entire locker room. He wants Nathan Saniti to see the pain in his eyes. He wants everyone to see exactly what happens when you cross the Lord.
Lunatic must be kept alive so that he can tell his story. Nathan? Gabriel reserves no such role for him. He is going to die.
