“Hell of a challenge you've got this week, don't you think Wasp?”
Wasp wasn't really paying attention though. He noticed that Arica or “Trouble” as most knew her had brought him over a coffee but his mind was far from present. He was already thinking about the match. Hell of an opportunity, but a hell of a challenge. Yes the Icemann Invitational was a hell of a shot, and he was grateful for the opportunity, but was it an opportunity? His opponent was the most respected, the most feared, and well, the most brutal man to possible ever walk the halls of the PCW Arena. Yes, his opponent was none other than the mighty Grimm.
Was he up for the challenge? Probably not. He was a realist, not an optimist or a pessimist. He knew that Grimm was a better wrestler, and certainly much more unforgiving to deal with. There was not much to say that hadn't been said. Sure, he wasn't unbeatable, no one was, but the real question was whether or not he was beatable when it came time to their match. Possibly. Probably not, but there was always the opportunity. He smiled to himself. If he didn't at least have a sliver of hope then he would of just forfeited. No amount of a paycheque was worth the amount of destruction that force of a man could inflict to his body.
“I said hell of a challenge you got this week. Wasp? Earth to Wasp? Are you listening?” Trouble spoke again, her voice teetering on irritated but still soft. He shook his head to clear his thoughts. He hated to be rude, and he wasn't about to start now.
“Sorry, I was thinking about the match. Thank you for the coffee. Yeah, I think that goes without being said Arica. I mean the man is Grimm. His name alone is all the description you need. Anyone who knows anything about PCW knows that if you want to prove your mettle, prove your worth, Grimm's the guy you try and get yourself a match with. I'm not super interested in proving my worth. I'm no superstar, I'm more suited to tag team matches. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the singles action, but like you said, this is one hell of a challenge. All I can do is go out there and try to find some sort of advantage that I can work in my favor. Not sure what that advantage is, but I'm going to try my best. There's no shame in losing to Grimm, but I'd love to stun the PCW Universe with a win,” he replied smiling at her.
She smiled back at him then began to laugh, eliciting a confused look from him. Her reaction was unexpected. “What's so funny?” he asked raising an eyebrow at her. Her laughter subsided but her smile stayed true.
“You talk yourself down too much. I know you said you're a realist but you do have some advantages. First of all, I'm pretty sure you're a bit speedier than he is. I've seen you in the ring. You might be older than some of the roster, but you're quick in the ring. Some of that's probably from your time with Tide as tag champions, but you could attack him with speed. I mean, you're not going to beat him in raw power, the man is a monster. You'd just find yourself flat on your back wondering what the hell happened if you did that. Speaking of Tide, I know you don't like to wrestle that way, but you spent a lot of your career with one of the dirtiest wrestlers in the ring. You want a win? Then go for it. Do what you have to do to win. It's that simple. You're good at it whether you enjoy it or not. You're going out there to win, not to have fun. A thumb to the eye, a sneaky low blow. Use that time you spent with Tide to your advantage. It's not glorious but you know what's even less glorious than a dirty win? Spending a week after your loss on the couch because Grimm beat your ass so hard that you can't even get up. Let me tell you, I'm not going to bring you a bedpan to shit in, especially not if you don't give it everything you got!” Trouble laughed again and Wasp couldn't help but join in. Her directness was not unexpected, she had been direct ever since he had met her. It was the brashness with which her words rang out that surprised him. He smiled at her.
“You're right, I'll do what I have to do. Maybe, just maybe I can steal a win out from underneath Grimm,” he spoke the smile never leaving his face as he sipped at his entirely too hot coffee. “When things look Grimm, you just got to find a silver lining. Speed and dirty, I think I'll take your advice,” Wasp added smiling as he went back into his own mind, various scenarios running themselves through his head all the while Trouble just smiled at him.
