Reflection
Tyler Scott stares intently into the bathroom mirror. The bruising around his neck was darker than the day before. Marbled contusions of purple and yellow mark the spot of where Justin Michaels’ forearm squeezed so tightly two nights before. His Adam’s Apple is barely noticeable under the swelling.
With every twist of his neck there is a throbbing pain but Tyler examines the damage with a gleeful smirk. The bruising, whilst uncomfortable, was a visible sign of his battle.
The swelling around his larynx made the loss to Stormm an even more bitter pill to swallow - but Tyler was proud. He pushed Justin Michaels to his limit and he forced the North American champion to resort to villainous tactics. Justin Michaels could not pin his shoulders to the mat and Tyler Scott shall never ever tap out in a wrestling ring. Stormm did what he had to - the only thing that he could do - to beat Tyler Scott. Stormm resorted to choking Tyler out in order to keep his precious championship belt. However, Tyler is proud of his efforts. He wonders to himself - wherever Justin Michaels is, whichever mirror he looks into next, would he be satisfied with his performance? Does Stormm feel fulfilled knowing that the rest of the wrestling world knows that he has yet to beat Tyler Scott in a truly clean finish? Tyler knows the answer - he knows that they will meet again soon.
From wreck and ruin to having a home to call his own again, much has changed for Tyler Scott.
Unfortunate events followed unforeseen circumstances. Career disappointments we’re compounded by personal failures.
After his last stint with the company, he left Pure Class Wrestling to pursue other opportunities which never materialised. Wrestling promotions would not book him other than the odd filler match. Regular work on the independent scene was hard to come by. As the money dried up, the pressures on his personal life, particularly his marriage, began to show.
His first and only love Veronica (Roni for short) had grown accustomed to the comfortable lifestyle that Tyler had provided for her during his peak run at Pure Class Wrestling. She always had the newest biggest German SUV to drive to the shops in to buy more jewellery and clothes; and enjoy plenty of coffee shop catch-ups with her similarly entitled girlfriends.
When Tyler’s wrestling bookings became increasingly sparse and they needed to make cutbacks - Roni choose the lifestyle over him. Tyler was cast aside like last years BMW X5 model.
They sold the shared house in Fisher Park, Greensboro. Roni got a more ‘equal’ share than Tyler. She took the car. Tyler was inconsiderately left with all the furniture with no where to put it other than self storage. He tried to flog many items without success. The furniture is still in a big yellow shipping container somewhere on the outskirts of Greensboro. However Tyler cannot not bothered to remember where it is. For him, the shipping container is a painful reminder of a life gone downhill. The couch, the dining table, the bed frame and mattress were excess baggage that he chose to shed.
Roni was soon dating a successful dentist from Georgia with luminous teeth and his own hair. Tyler couldn’t compete with that - he has two replacement front teeth from a botched super kick and when bald at the age of 25.
Tyler Scott was on the streets after his life and career had eroded and crumbled away. He managed to fly back to England with what little money he had left. 4 months he spent sleeping on the sofas of his school friends and loose acquaintances who felt bad for him. One by one they grew tired of Tyler’s presence in their house and asked him to move on. Tyler hopped from spare bed to sofa to hard wooden floor until there were no more friends left to call.
His first night on the streets was horrific. He didn’t actually sleep on the streets - he just caught the night bus and travelled around London as long as he could - pretending that commuting would hide his homelessness.
Pure Class Wrestling was half a world away.
Tyler Scott looks around him and back again at the bathroom mirror. He is proud of what he has accomplished. He is satisfied with what he has built.
He has a new house. Yes, it requires some renovation. And yes there are rumours that the place had been used as a drug den in the past but Tyler was happy to get stuck in and put his DIY skills to use once again.
He has a new dog - a rescued Labrador named Ralph. Who the hell needs a woman when you’ve got a dog? Loyalty and zero backchat.
Tyler Scott’s life is being rebuilt, brick by brick, piece by piece. It was somewhere off where he wanted it to be, but he is making progress.
Now in the Icemann Invitational Tournament presents a new opportunity to rebuild a legacy - not only for Tyler Scott, but for another man too. Gabriel
Gabriel and Tyler Scott’s careers and personal lives draw strong comparisons. Both have experienced great victories and disheartening defeats. Both have lost the ones they love.
But one thing that separates Tyler Scott and Gabriel is integrity. Not integrity as a performer or as competitor - but as a man. Tyler Scott has never and will never change his identity for anyone.
Gabriel on the other hand is a fucking sell out.
Tyler ponders - what does Gabriel see in the mirror? What kind of man is looking back at him? A family man? An honourable man? A lap dog or a retriever - doing the bidding of another man?
When Gabriel looks in the mirror, does he see Seromine? Or does he see Rick Majors?
Tyler Scott has rebuilt his life.
He will rebuild a legacy when he wins the Icemann Invitational Tournament.
He hopes that Rick Majors legacy will be rebuilt too.
