Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!
Gabriel walked through the backstage area of the arena. His match with Tyler Scott had just ended. He should have been happy. He had accomplished a goal. He advanced in the tournament. He was one step closer to proving his worth to the Lord.
But then HE had to ruin it.
He ruins things. That’s what he does. He stole the Lord’s title. He defeated Gabriel inside a steel cage. He stole the spotlight from the Lord. He tried to block out the Lord’s holy message with juvenile video game references and immature banter. The Lord should be the main focus of this world. When Pure Class Wrestling airs, people should be waiting with bated breath to hear the Lord speak. Each episode should be an enlightening experience for the so-called “Faithful.”
And yet, when they tune into the broadcast they instead see bravado. They see brashness. They see a man who is so full of himself and his “achievements” that he tries to take all of the spotlight for himself. Look how he sinfully gambles on the Icemann Invitational Tournament. He doesn’t care about physical competition or spiritual enlightenment. He cares about making money. He cares about making himself look good. It’s disgusting.
Kyle Shane couldn’t help himself this week. Yet again he had to direct the spotlight onto himself. He had to come down during the match with Tyler Scott. He had to attack Gabriel following the contest. Kyle Shane has a sickness. He is desperate for attention. He craves it. All he wants in the world is for the crowd to be looking at him and watching him as he collects baubles and trinkets to line his nest. Kyle Shane is a shallow man who only wishes to fill his trophy case.
Rick Majors was once that type of man. He had a room lined with photos of the “greatest” moments of his career. He had a trophy case filled with replicas of the championships he won. He loved the spotlight almost as much as Kyle Shane did, perhaps more. And what did that get him?
A life dedicated to fame, fortune, and attracting attention is a wasted life. Rick Majors wasted his life. And Kyle Shane is going down that same road. He must be saved. Or he must be destroyed.
The only righteous life is a life dedicated to the Lord. He is the one who makes everything possible. He is the one who grants us salvation. He is the one who loves us and who wants what is best for us. Trophies and championship belts do not get you to the Promised Land. Only devotion to the Lord does that.
“Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions” - Luke 12:15
The words of the Lord gave Gabriel peace in this difficult time. Gabriel was frustrated. Gabriel was disgusted. Gabriel was angry. And it was all because of Kyle Shane. Again.
While Johnny Matthews and Justin Michaels were responsible for Gabriel’s concussion, it was Kyle Shane who eliminated Gabriel from that cage match. It was Kyle Shane who started to tarnish Gabriel’s reputation in the eyes of the Lord. Kyle Shane stole the Lord’s crown. Kyle Shane attacked Gabriel afterwards. Kyle Shane mocked Gabriel. Kyle Shane mocked the Lord.
And for that he must be punished.
Gabriel suddenly stopped dead in his tracks. There was the room. There was the room where Seromine and Destiny exposed him for the fool that he is. It is the room where he should have taken his punishment like a man and moved on. It is the room where, instead, he crumbled to the floor. He was broken.
This is the same room where, several years ago, Rick Majors sat in the dark and drank and drank until he could barely walk. It is the same room where Rick downed as many pills as he possibly could. In this very room he closed his eyes and waited for it all to end. He crumbled to the floor. He was broken.
On that night four years ago, Rick Majors tried to take his own life. But, also on that same night, Rick Majors tried to live. For after he drank that vodka and took those pills, he managed to get up. He stumbled to the restroom. He vomited. He vomited again and again and again. He vomited so much he started to cough up blood. He had made a terrible mistake. He knew it. And then he passed out.
When Rick Majors came to he was in a hospital. He was receiving emergency care. Someone told him where he was and that his wife was on the way. Then he blacked out again. It was a long struggle for Rick Majors to get out of his room in the back of the arena and, eventually, to get up on his feet again and back out into the world.
Rick Majors was a failure. But he took the steps he needed. He took the steps that would eventually lead him to the Lord. And now, here Gabriel stands, in this same room where both Rick Majors and Gabriel had their lowest points, and he is determined.
Kyle Shane will not be the one to break him. Gabriel’s road to redemption does not end here. The Lord will recognize what Gabriel has to offer and He will start to do so as soon as Gabriel destroys the gamer.
But is that even the right thing to do?
Kyle Shane has been a thorn in Gabriel’s side for a long while. He assaulted Gabriel after a match and stole his North American Championship. He mocked Gabriel relentlessly. He tried to drive a wedge between Gabriel and the Lord. Kyle Shane is Gabriel's enemy. But Kyle Shane has hurt the Lord far more. He’s tried to undermine the Lord’s sacred message. He walks around with a title that should rightfully be around the Lord’s waist. Is it really right that Gabriel be the one to destroy him? Would Gabriel eliminating Kyle Shane be just as wrong as when Gabriel attacked Brenna Gordon? Should the Lord be left to fight his own battles and destroy his own enemies? Should Gabriel stick to being the messenger of His words?
Gabriel needed to pray. He needed to find the answers. The Lord would guide him.
