The show was over. But the action remained in his head. Seromine zeroed in on the intentions portion of the event name. Plural, meaning he was actively thinking of payback over and over while he sat titleless in the locker room. He had yet to change out of his ring gear, opting to remain in the sweat drenched clothing.
He had been made to look like a fool again. Only this time, it came with the caveat of being denied a second World title reign. It would show Kyle Shane pinned him in the record books again. The third time in less than a year, second in a little over two weeks.
Seromine didn't care. A win was a win. Kyle would now move on to face Gerard Angelo, while he would...what? At forty years old, he knew the sands of time was running out. Seromine only said it to Destiny in passing, but Deadly Intentions was his final shot at the gold. There would be no rematches. There would not be any further participation in the Deadly Rumble or another entry into the Icemann Invitational.
He was past all of that. His time for championships of any kind was now a thing others can read about after he's gone. It was time to pass the torch to a younger generation and let them make their own in roads. Gerard was going to get his first crack at a PCW championship. A main event spot worthy of a rising star.
He would be lucky to find himself booked for Collision Course. A most fitting name given the depths Justin "Stormm" Michaels, a man he had known for fifteen years, went to screw him over. The silver lining is now Seromine knew who XIII was. Now he wouldn't have to see that damn scarecrow torment his reality, cloud his dreams or question his level of sanity for another second.
For as much as Seromine desperately wanted to rip Stormm apart, he knew patience was a virtue. If there was one thing he could take comfort in, it's that Stormm had made himself plenty of enemies and you know what they say about karma. He would answer for the cheap shot on Grimm. He would answer for hitting Kyle Shane with a Force of Nature. In some low level way, he would even answer for dumping Gabriel out of the ring in the triple threat match.
And that's when Seromine's demeanor changed.
Where was he at when it mattered? For everything Seromine had done for him over the duration of two and a half years, Gabriel's decision making left a lot to be desired. He KNEW the consequences of defeat, and yet, when Seromine needed him to lend a hand, he brought Halloween early and turned into the Invisible Man.
Gabriel watched his head get shaved. Gabriel listened to him having to admit that everything Kyle said was right.
But he didn't stop it. Gabriel instead attacked from behind well after the fact. Not out of payback. But to insert himself into a World title match that was granted because Seromine still had a rematch owed to him. That was his way of making things right, Seromine rationalized after that embarrassing night.
Then Deadly Intentions comes. Everything they discussed was working out. Seromine would recapture the gold in the name of GOD and everything would be corrected. But then...something funny happened.
Gabriel had just hit Kyle with his finisher. Once he realized the weight of the situation, he had a choice to make. He sought out where his leader was. He then battled through his dilemma to arrive at a decision.
He was going to make his only pinfall matter and in the process take the World for himself! Seromine put a stop to that sin. Gabriel must've forgot his role, his place, his lone purpose.
Then history repeated itself. Why didn't he stop Stormm? Why didn't he stop the referee? Why didn't he stop Kyle Shane one more time?
That must be why Gabriel entered the Deadly Rumble. To make things right. To go in and WIN AGAINST SIN! Gabriel wanted to win the chance to compete for the World title, so that he could step aside and allow Seromine to take back what was his. It all made sense.
So did Gabriel failing to win. Failing to even make the FINAL four. He embarrassed himself for the second time. Third if you counted Trauma. Now they were left with nothing to show for themselves.
Matthew 6:15. But if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Seromine had to get that kind of thinking out of his head. It wasn't honest. It was the devil at work in trying to plant dissent. Gabriel wasn't wrong for attacking Kyle Shane. Gabriel wasn't wrong for only taking one chance for himself. Gabriel wasn't wrong for entering the Deadly Rumble in hopes of SALVATION.
It was Seromine's heated thinking that was wrong. The stress of the last couple of months had taken over. Seromine was wrong. He let Stormm get into his head for too long.
He had to go wash away his sins now. Little did he know what news would be given days later at home.
"Stormm is going to pay!" Seromine says with a grin. "Have you seen my next match yet?"
Seromine and Destiny were seated at the table as the news was learned. Seromine was going to be taghing with his messenger against Kyle Shane and Justin "XIII" Michaels. It was as if GOD answered his prayers. The perfect storm (no extra m needed) had been cast. It read like a tag, but it might as well have been a handicap. Justin had no friends in the match. Everyone else involved had a reason to stomp a mudhole in the North American champion.
Karma.
Destiny smiles as she is shown the card. "That's great, babe." Her head shifts away to hide the look behind her eyes. She sighs, gently wiping tear droplets away.
"Why are you crying?"
Destiny turns towards him once more, this time with her right hand holding his. She shakes her head. Seromine leans in while playfully tickling her. She immediately squirms in the chair while roaring with laughter. He doesn't relent in the playfulness. With her equally long reach, she manages to flip things around on him, eventually settling for a scoot onto his lap. Destiny takes the phone and after eyeing the news again, turns it off.
"Is everything okay?" he asks.
"Of course. Never better."
She lays her head down against his while playing with his hands against her stomach.
"Are you sure?"
"Uh huh. I was just thinking that..."
"Yes?"
"Remember how we always talked about getting the procedure done together?"
Seromine chuckles. "Are you ready to get your tubes tied?"
"At the same you're ready for a vasectomy."
"You just pick the date and we'll make arrangements."
Destiny reaches for the phone. Her pace is deliberately slow as she looks at her husband from the corners of her eyes. Her smile starts to show. Seromine turns his attention to his phone now.
"Ah, made you look, made you look, hehe."
She grabs the phone but doesn't turn it on. Destiny stands up and moves out of the kitchen. Brushing aside some rogue strands of her brown hair, she motions for him to follow. He does and is lead into the living room. She gives him a gentle push onto the couch.
"Don't go anywhere, I'll be right back." She informs following a kiss. Her hands caress his body in a suggestive way with an added wink before she leaves. With the children gone to school, this was as good a time as any. Minutes later she returns, but is still dressed in her lilac nightgown. In her right hand is a small box that has been wrapped in pastel pink paper.
Destiny sits facing him. Seromine looks at her and then with amusement, the box. "You got me a present?"
Destiny looks more excited than usual about the contents. "I was going to give it to you on our anniversary, but with everything that was going on, I held off. "
"It must be something really special. But you didn't have to wait..."
"Trust me, it wasn't easy. Especially on that night. But..."
She hands him the gift with a glow on her face. "I love you with all of my heart and soul."
Destiny watches with eager anticipation as he removes the bow, ribbon and paper. Her lower lip is being bit while this goes on. Seromine smiles at her before removing the white lid. Inside is a small amount of wrapped tissue paper. Once that is unraveled, he pauses.
In his hand was a positive pregnancy test! Destiny and Jason Willard are going to become parents for a fifth time!
The overwhelming elation wasted little time in hitting. He places the test back into the gift box and then turns for a tight embrace with his wife. By this time, Destiny herself is overcome with emotion. He repeatedly tells her "I love you" while following it up with a kiss, the last of which is passionate. They wipe the tears from the others eyes and share another hug.
"After this baby, we can make the appointments."
"I'm ready whenever you are, hun." Seromine pauses as the news continues to be processed. "This is better than anything I could ever accomplish in the ring!"
Destiny looks him in the eyes. Her left hand is behind his head. She can't stop radiating happiness. "We're having a summer baby!"
