“What the fuck happened?”
Gerard stood in the middle of his spacious backyard, arms crossed over his chest. Was he talking about the awful result of the Deadly Rumble, where Grimm won instead of Gerard or David Hunter. Seriously, Gerard and David had a two on one advantage on Grimm and he still won. How fucking lame is that?
Or could Geard be talking about the fact that the match on Trauma was once again, Pandaemonium versus Grimm and Rick Majors. Because the same match needs to be booked every other week. Only this time it was David as his partner instead of Holden, so at least the front office tried.
No, Gerard was talking about the situation that happened where Kara was kidnapped by Ba’lal’s goons. Amanda sat on one of the pool loungers in front of him, hunched over, her arms on her thighs.
“I tried,” Amanda said, looking up at Gerry, “I really did try.”
“Apparently not hard enough.” Gerry said bitterly.
Amanda’s eyes welled up with tears. Gerard should’ve felt bad. It wasn’t her fault, but he wanted someone to feel as bad and frustrated as he did. She wiped her eyes on the back of her wrist and glared daggers at the Hollywood Hero.
“If you didn’t spend a whole year buddying up to the guy with the literal name the Dark Lord, we wouldn’t be in this mess!”
Gerard goes to say something back but stops. She was right. He had been tricked and blinded by his own greed. He cared more about getting what he wanted then protecting the people around him.
“You’re...You’re right. I’m sorry. I know you tried your best, Amanda.” Gerry said with a sigh. “It’s all my fault. I was worried more about myself than anyone else.”
“It’s not totally your fault. Ba’lal was influencing you. You just didn’t realize it.”
Gerry knew she was trying to make him feel better, but it didn’t work. Kara was out there in the clutches of some demon god, and he was here without a lead.
“Yeah, but what does he want? Why did he take Kara?”
Amanda looks down at the ground. Gerard raises an eyebrow.
“What?”
“He wants your body.” Amanad says.
“Like he wants to fuck me?”
“No you idiot. He wants to possess you.”
Gerry pauses. How does his life keep getting weirder week by week?
“But why me?”
Amanda rolls her eyes.
“Have you not been paying attention for the last year and a half? You are an Electi. An Electi is what put Ba’lal away in his prison for the last three thousand years. We think that he believes if he takes an Electi as his host, the power will negate and there will be nothing that can put him back in the prison. You have a great power, and he wants to harness it for himself so even the other gods can’t stop him.”
Gerard looks down at his hands.
“I mean, I don’t feel that powerful.”
“That’s because you haven’t unlocked your power yet.”
“That still doesn’t explain why he took Kara.”
“It’s simple really,” Amanda explains, “The more someone descends into anger and negative thoughts, the easier it is for them to become possessed. Like when Ba’lal first started targeting you, he attacked your dreams to weaken you. After that he kept trying to make you angry. He’s probably expecting you to chase after Kara, losing your mind, and you’ll be easy pickings.”
“I mean, yeah, that makes sense but I have no idea where Kara is.”
“He’ll show you eventually. He’s trying to draw it out.”
Gerard clenches his fist and stares off into the distance. Amanda stands up, walking over to him, and rubs his arm.
“Hey. Listen, we’ll get her back Gerard. We’re going to have the full support of the DMD behind us. We’ll get her back, and we’re gonna lock that wannabe god away for good.”
Gerard still looks off into the distance.
“Can you teach me how to unlock my power? I feel like this is something I need to help with. After all, it’s mostly my fault.”
Amanda smiles.
“Of course. We’ll set something up for next week with the DMD trainers. Right now, and I know it’s hard, but don't dwell on it. Focus on wrestling, take your mind off of it. If you go in there with your mind clouded in anger you’re just going to be playing into Ba’lal’s claws. Besides, we can’t do anything until we know where they’re holding her.”
Gerard turns and looks at Amanda.
“You guys can’t use magic or anything to find her?” He asks hopefully. Amanda shakes her head.
“Ba’lal is too power, he can hide himself and anything else. We can’t pierce that magic.”
Gerry sighs and nods. Amanda pats his arm again.
“I should head back though, I need to finish reporting what happened and get prepared. Like I said, try to focus on wrestling. Take your anger out in the ring. It’ll be good for you.”
Amanda turns to walk away.
“Hey!”
Amanda stops and turns back to Gerard.
“You were talking before about the gods being able to stop Ba’lal.” He says. Amanda nods.
“Where are they now?”
Amanda shrugs.
“Probably sleeping.”
Amanda turns and changes into a white owl, flying away. Gerard watches her go until the speck of white fades against the blue sky. Gerry sighs. He wished he could sleep like a god does during trouble.
