A crisp bundle of one hundred dollar bills was extended from the grizzled manâs hand towards a bewildered couple. âPut it all on your guy.â He said through his large brown beard. He towered over them, which made them even more uncomfortable, as they stared at the behemoth that had torn through every opponent put into the cage with him for the previous two years since arriving in Washington D.C..
With his free hand, he scratched the side of his head, shaved on both sides, with a long patch down the middle pulled back into a braid that ended halfway down his back. âIâve already placed my bet.â
âSo have her do it!â He grunted loudly. âItâs a sure thing.â
The wife started to extend her hand. âThatâs a lot of money, babe.â She said hesitantly, still not grabbing the wad of cash.
âWhat if itâs a trick?â The husband asked his wife.
âThen you win the bet you placed earlier, and arenât out anything, because this isnât even your money!â The large man, who for over three years had been fighting under the guise of âChaosâ and gone undefeated in both his time in Detroit, as well as in the nationâs capital, shoved the money into the womanâs hand.
âWhat do you get out of this?â The wife asked, curious as to why her and her husbandâs fighter was the so-called âchosen oneâ to finally dethrone him.
âOut.â He confirmed. âIâm done with this shit, and tired of those suits that brought me here not doing any more for me for all the money Iâve made them.â There was more in his voice than anger, or perhaps it was the absence of something else.
The couple looked at each other before the husbandâs curiosity continued. âIs that it?â It wasnât.
âHalf!â He sternly suggested.
âHalf?â The woman questioned back.
âYour guy actually doesnât stand a fucking chance against me, and they have me at fifty to one.â Chaos explained. âYou put the max bet down, youâll collect five million, and maybe put this little sideshow one step closer to being out of business. I want half!â He paused as he ran his right hand through his beard, the same hand that had previously been holding onto one hundred thousand dollars. âJust tell him to come out quick and come out swinging, my guard will be down on my left side. This will only work if it happens in the first five or ten seconds.â
âThen what?â She asked, more interested in the manâs story than the money at that point.
He didnât seem interested in answering as he started to walk away, but then paused. With a heavy sigh, he looked back over his shoulder at the couple. âThen Iâm gone.â
...Shadow of the Starved Dragon...
Remember how I told you it was a long shot? Well it definitely was. The trail we thought we had picked up on Kaden, turns out it ended up being this Finn Dahl person the whole time. The very Finn Dahl whose patient file came from the personal collection of Dr. Sorrow after his death. The same one I had been ignoring for nearly two years at that point.
Your aunt Morgan confirmed it actually, as it turns out, Finn was someone she had actually dated for a while, the mysterious beau she had and refused to let us meet. She was not happy to see the patient file sitting around when she came to visit your younger brother. He was only a few days old at that point, so that stress on top of everything else made for a very âinterestingâ visit.
She had met him in D.C. at some point, but wasnât aware of his underground fighting at all. In fact she just thought he was training to be an actual MMA fighter. The news of the apartment in Detroit wasnât a surprise to her either, though all the stuff on the walls, along with her picture, did set her off a bit.
Turns out, he dumped her at some point after a trip they made to Myrtle Beach, around the same time she was going to take him to watch one of my matches. She didnât want to talk about it much after that, but she said it was like a switch had flipped on them while they were having dinner, and he just up and walked out on her. She wasnât proud of admitting to stalking him for a few days afterwards, but was trying to figure out what was really going on. She ended up following him to a house in the suburbs, and when she saw a woman open the door, she left it at that, and walked away.
Now, to this point, Finn was only a name, we had no pictures of him, and honestly, only a vague recollection of what Kaden looked like before he went missing, to be honest, so when she described how big Finn was, it seemed pretty similar. But Kaden had blonde hair, and when she talked about Finn, he had dark brown hair, long and braided, with a beard as well.
Needless to say, it was a huge bummer that the breadcrumbs we had been following were just another Dr. Sorrow wild goose chase he was sending me on from beyond the grave. Then again, maybe Finn Dahl was really the key to finding Kaden Calix. Our hunt would have to wait another day to end, especially then, with two toddlers and a newborn on our hands now, things had gotten even more stressful for us.
What better way to deal with stress than to be thrown into a six-man match at a themed Trauma? Definitely not, but that was on my horizon at that point as well, and after the match I had with Jason Willard a few weeks prior, I was not looking forward to stepping into that injury trap of a match with the other two champions at the time, two others looking to leave a mark on PCW, and one that already had.

What could go wrong?
Technically a lot of things, but if I managed to get out of the arena on my own two feet after All Hallowsâ Eve, I would consider myself lucky. Grimm was coming for my World title later in the year, and Gerard had his shot, but only he knew when he was going to take it.
As for the other two...
I had yet to cross paths with Loki since his return, so it was bound to happen. Another Hall of Famer in this match whose history and mine had crossed paths before. In fact, he was who I won my previous World title off of, and then lost it back to, so call it whatever kind of coincidence you like that he would be in this match as well, as the current North American Champion, while I held onto the World title still. A title that took me eight years to get back. In fact, if you wanted to, you could say he might have been my first target. If for anything else, being the reason my first reign was cut so short, and then took me so long to get back.
David Hunter was honestly just a Gerard Angelo lackey, and had been for some time, so anytime I would have to look over my shoulder for Gerard, no doubt, David Hunter wouldnât be far behind either. I had fended them off before, though, and I was likely going to have to do it again.
But until that time came, my biggest opponent was poopy diapers. To tell you the truth, you two were pretty big pains in our asses when it came to your brother right away. Not being the centers of attention was something that took you guys a while to get used to. You took after your father in that way, if the spotlight wasnât on you, you found a way to get its attention!
