After the recent passing of his grandfather, Holden inherited a large chunk of money as an inheritance, as well as ten acres of land in the mountains not far from S.L.O. in California. It would make great land to do a little farming on. Already plans are in the works to prep it for growing cannabis outdoors. He's even going through the process of obtaining a legal growing license. Currently, he is sitting on his couch in his shitbox apartment. The smell of charred meat mingled with peppers and onions wafts in through the window, which is open just a crack.
Aside from the money and land, Holden also received one of his grandfathers cars; a seventy-two Chevy Chevelle. The engine and drivetrain are nearly brand new and, as part of the deal to have the car, Holden must finish restoring it. Cannabis green candy paint job will take the place of the gray primer in just a weeks time. He sparks a blunt and inhales deeply, picturing the finished work on the car. He is brought out of his day dreaming by a soft knock he has grown accustomed to; Cesar left a plate of food for him. Shredded beef, grilled chicken, rice, beans, a handful of small, pickled peppers and 2 rolled tortillas all under a tent of aluminum foil.
Halfway through the plate, his phone rings, and it is production. He has a brief conversation with them, confirming that he will be there the following day for a sit down interview to hype his upcoming match with the Genesis Champion, Rick Majors. As he hangs up, his mind flashes back to their last collision and how he was on the losing end of the effort. Shoveling a forkful of beef, rice, and beans into a scrap of tortilla, he smirks. This time will be different, this time he will be leaving the victor. He hopes the scrap of tortilla into his mouth and washes it down with a swig from a bottle of Heineken.
The following day….
Cameras open on Holden Ross as he sits in a high back chair while across from him, in a similar chair, is P.C.W. interviewer extraordinaire, Shane Dodge. Shane is wearing a nice grey button up shirt under a sharp black blazer while sitting across from him is Holden, wearing a black “Thrasher" skate company hoodie as well as a black bandana folded and tied around his head. There is only a few feet of empty space between them and Kyle is obviously annoyed with Holden's smoking. Holden pinches the cherry off of the blunt and tucks the roach behind his left ear. Camera begin rolling and Shane’s scowl is replaced with his megawatt smile.
“Welcome ladies and gentlemen, tonight I am sitting down with the challenger to the Genesis Championship, Holden Ross. Thank you for joining me, I know this isn’t your normal interview setting, but I’m thankful nonetheless.” Shane is still flashing his megawatt, used Bentley salesman smile, his eyes sparkle almost as much as his veneers.
“Notta problem, Shane.” is Holden’s reply.
“I know this isn’t your usual setting when you cut a promotion an interview for Trauma or one of our pay-per-views, but I wanted to sit down with you and ask a few questions…..get some real answers from you.”
Holden's smile melts off of his face and his eyes tick from Shane, to the camera for a couple seconds, and then back to Shane.
“So, are you saying I lied before my other matches?” Holden's voice is a low rumble, barely above a whisper. Shane’s smile falters for a split second but, if you’re observant enough, you caught it.
“I n-never called you a liar...” Shane stammers before being cut off.
“By saying ‘real answers' you insinuate that I lied, or was misleading, in my promo's for my other matches. I have done everything I said I was gonna done irritation adds an edge to his tone.
“I’m sorry, Holden, I didn’t mean it that way. At all! Look, let’s start over; thank you for joining me today. Last week you nearly murdered Alexa Black by delivering your finisher, “Sins of the Father,” from the top rope. Was that your intent?”
Holden smirks. “Does a lion have intent when it takes down a gazelle? Or a grizzly when it scoops a salmon out of a river or stream? No, there’s no intent. It does it out of instinct to survive. When I was preparing for that match, as I walked down the aisle, and when the match initially started I had no plan, no intentions, of delivering my finisher off the top rope. I just did it, in the moment, because that big bitch is harder to put down than I thought!” Holden removes a flash from the front pocket of his hoodie and takes a swig. He offers it to Shane but our intrepid interviewer politely declined with the wave a his hand.
“Well, it truly was something you had to see in person to honestly appreciate. Alexa is a big woman and you snatched her up like she was a sack of potatoes. We have seen you put Rick Majors away with the same finisher but, at this Trauma, you two are in a “Hangman's Horror" match which, if I’m not mistaken, is a first for our company. This stipulation is a direct result of your attack on the Genesis Champion after he retained against Texas Tim. What if it ends up being you with the chain wrapped around his neck, dangling in the air?”
Holden smirks again. “It won’t happen, period. Rick and I have a well documented history. Theoretically, if you think about it, he is responsible for my being here. And I am going to be the one to strip him of the Genesis Championship. We have spilled each others blood. We have tried to end each others career, at least I know I have, and he keeps comin back. Like that kid on the orphanage beggin ‘Please, sir, may I have some more?’ The last time we met Rick came out as the victor. Like I just said, this time will be different. “
“And what about Pandæmonium? Are you still a faction for the roster to worry about? Will David Hunter be back?” Shane smoothly moves the interview along.
“Shane….” Holden scoffs, “Pandæmonium is doing just fine. Me and Gerry are holding down the fort while Dave takes care of some dings and scratches. He's will be back, eventually, and Pandæmonium will still be going strong. Maybe even with a new member or two. Meanwhile, Gerry is going to take the World Title, that is rightfully his, off of Stormm's hands. Pandemonium’s doin just fine, Shane. Just fine…..”
Shane nods in contemplation and begins to wrap up this brief interview with the Human Wrecking Ball.
“Anything else you wanna get off your chest before we finish up?”
Holden smirks. “Shane, this company is a lot like Doctor Victor Frankenstein. Pure Class created a monster, nurtured it, fed it, and gave it a home; much like Vic did with his creation of a potpourri of corpse parts. Vic's creature eventually got out of control and soon enough, the villagers were chasing him down with pitchforks and torches. Here in Pure Class, you went and created a monster, raising it on brutal, ultraviolent fights that left numerous bodies in its wake.
Once the company signed on with TBS, things changed, blood and violence were looked at as the red headed step kid. Advertisers and network big wings said they didn’t like the idea of an “Underground Division" and,” he snaps his fingers, “just like that the Genesis Championship is dusted off. And who is the first Champ? It just so happens a former big face from a failed company gets the belt and now TBS has a recognizable face carrying a belt.”
“Now, hold on a-" Shane tries to stick up for the company but is cut off.
“Shut the f(bleep) up, Shane, nobody believes your bullsh(bleep)t. And I’m not farming so I ain’t buyin it either. Rick Majors' much beloved face isn’t gonna resemble the previous mug he sees in the mirror every morning. Shane, I’m leavin Trauma with the Genesis Championship. Pandæmonium will have gold again soon enough. And I think it’s about time you wrapped this sh(bleep)t up….” Holden twirls his finger briefly when saying “wrap it up.”
Shane snaps to attention and flashes his smile.
“You heard it from the man himself, Holden Ross! He has a fire under him and he is gunning for the Genesis Championship. He's controversial in both the ring and on the mic and tonight was no different.” He turns to Holden. “Thank you for joining me this afternoon.” He turns back to the camera. “And make sure you[/b] join us, Pure Class Wrestling, Friday night, December eighteenth live! Only on TBS! I'm Shane Dodge and this is Holden Ross and we are out of here!”
