The sun was high in the nearly cloud-less sky, and Pegasus couldn't help but enjoy the the heat as it beat down upon his face. He wore a white, short sleeve T-shirt that bore the PCW logo on it. His legs were covered by khaki pants, and his shoes were just a generic pair of sneakers, white of course. He hadn't gotten a hair cut for awhile, and his hair was beginning to dangle just slightly in front of his eyes. For a change from the usual, he also threw on a pair black sun glasses, not so much for the looks as some people do, but for their intended use... to block out the sun.
Most people wouldn't have been able to guess it, to even begin to think that the current contender for the PCW championship walked only a few feet away. Today would be different for Pegasus, as his life of relative obscurity to the rest of the world would be shattered in mere seconds. You see, he wasn't much for the lime-light, what he did in the ring stayed in the ring, and what he did out of it was usually nothing spectacular. Other than the mission he was given by God, he tried to keep as much of his two lives away from each other. It just wasn't meant to be today though, as his two worlds were just about to collide with the uttering of a few simple words.
Oh my god!!!
You ever have one of those moments where something is said, or yelled, and even though your in a crowded place, you know that thing is meant for you. This was one of those moments, and even though there were plenty of other people on the streets, Pegasus slowed his walk down until he stopped, and turned to find the source of the noise. He found it, across the street, in the form of an ecstatic girl. Her arms pulled in close to her body with her hands on her cheeks, and a bright pink purse dangling at her side, her blonde hair in a ponytail and swinging wildly as she sprinted... not ran, she sprinted across the street. Luckily, the street was absent of vehicles at the time, and she safely made it to where Pegasus stood.
Getting a closer look at the girl, Pegasus makes out her age to be no more than twenty, and even that would be a push for her. Her eyes were a sky blue, and wide open as she looked over Pegasus, finishing her examination as her eyes came to the sun glasses. Her mouth was open as if it had never closed after she said those three words. She giggled as she placed one hand into her pocket, arched her back slightly and held out her hand.
Wow... I never ever EVER thought I'd meet you! My name is Brittany, or as my friends call me, Britt. It's a pleasure sir, I'm quite a big fan of yours. Pegasus took her hand and shook it, and then placed his hands in his pockets as the girl continued to talk. Ever since I saw your debut in PCW, I was hooked! I even went so far as to look up all of your past indy feds and the matches you participated in, I've actually been able to buy a few shows on tape. Oh! I have to show this to you, I think your going to like it!
It was at this time that Pegasus noticed her shirt, which happened to say "I LOVE SAM LANDRY!!!" He didn't know who the guy was, but Pegasus figured the guy must be doing something right if he ended up on a shirt. It also came to Pegasus' attention that she was lifting up that shirt. Quickly throwing up his hands in a "Naw... that's ok, I don't need to see" gesture, Pegasus backs into a brick wall. It doesn't stop her, and as her shirt rises higher, Pegasus closes his eyes hoping that no one else notices the girl as she bares herself to him.
Well... what do you think?
Pegasus opens his eyes to find her original shirt being held in her hands, and a new shirt clinging to her body. This one, a black one, had Pure Class Wrestling written acrossed it. Pegasus wasn't sure what was so special about it until she pointed it out. Wrapped around the "P" was a halo. She spun after pointing that out, and Pegasus found himself staring into his own face... only it was on the shirt, a large smile on it. Looking closer, he could see various scenes within the face, the most notable being Pegasus in mid-Leap of Faith. After a few seconds, she quickly turned back to face Pegasus.
I made it myself! What do you think? Pretty cool huh? It took me quite a few days to get the back of the shirt to look right, but I think it was worth it. And the scenes in the face were like, super hard to make work. But I stuck with it and I this has easily got to be my favoritest shirt ever! Oh my God though, I still can't believe I'm talking to you!
Pegasus scratched his head as the words he wanted to say seemed to be just out of reach. Remembering the diner he had passed before he was stopped, he quickly decides on his course of action.
That... uh... shirt is really nice. Looks like a lot of work. Listen, how about we talk inside the diner, I'd much rather not pull any more attention my way. Is that alright with you? I'll buy you a drink or something, but you just gotta keep it down alright?
Her head rocked back and forth so hard Pegasus thought it would snap off. He led her to the front door, and although to most it would have looked like he was being a gentleman by opening the door for her and letting her enter first, which in truth was partly what he was doing, but he also had another reason for opening the door. As she entered the establishment, Pegasus looked around to make sure the scene she had made hadn't drawn any more unwanted attention, and after reassuring himself that it hadn't, he entered as well.
He leads her towards an empty booth in the corner, and it isn't long after they settle in that a waitress stops at their table. After ordering a drink for himself and for Brittany, the waitress leaves, and Britt says the one thing Pegasus couldn't answer.
Why did you do it?
He became lost as he looked into her eyes, and he drowned as her voice filled his ears. He didn't know how to answer it, as he figured that just by saying that Night was keeping him from accomplishing his goal wouldn't cut it. Luckily, he didn't have to answer it, as she began talking again.
I guess I already know the answer though. I just... I don't know. I bought all the shows that you had a match in that I could find, I watched Trauma every Tuesday to see what you would do and how your matches would go, and then you turned. I... I couldn't even begin to understand why you would do something like that. But the more I watched you, and the more I watched the Prophet, I began to understand little by little.
I wanted to hate you, I did want to hate you for the pain you caused to Angelica... to your fans. Then... I kinda did the same thing that you had. I wished you were to get injured, but then I opened my eyes and saw what you really had done. You weren't ridding yourself of Angelica, you were protecting her. I know what your true purpose is in life, and you didn't want Angelica to be a part of it. To suffer through it the same way you have to. Your belief is so strong in what you must do that you will sacrifice your personal life, your reputation just to see that goal accomplished. I'm... actually doing the same thing. It may be a completely unrelated thing, but in a way, they are the same.
The drinks had been delievered a long time ago, yet neither of them had taken so much as a sip. Brittany, even though she had been so eager to talk to Pegasus now had tears forming at the corner of her eyes. He could tell that she had been through quite an experience herself.
I'm actually pregnant. Almost a month and a half along now. My family... is... well, we'll just say they are very respectable people. And yet, here I am, soon to be a senior in high school, and I become pregnant. Being they didn't want their reputation to be tarred, they demanded I get rid of it, in whatever way was necessary.
But I couldn't do it, I couldn't just start a life and then throw it away. They wouldn't hear of it though, and they continued to pressure me. Like how you are trying to protect Angelica from what your life was like, and will be like. I'm trying to protect my child from what my life was like. I left my family, and they don't know where I am. I'm starting my life over so that my child can be born and not have to worry about being perfect.
I want my baby to be able to make mistakes and learn from them. I want to give my child the life it deserves, much the same way you wanted to give Angelica a life she deserved, even if it meant it was away from you. I am kinda sacrificing all of the things I used to have to make sure my child has a chance. I... I don't know... maybe I'm just looking at this completely the wrong way. I'm sorry for wasting your time... I'm just going to go.
She throws a few dollars on the table for her drink, but Pegasus quickly picks up the money and hands it back to her, slipping a few hundred dollars of his own below her money that she fails to notice as she places it all back into her purse. Grabbing a pen from a nearby waitress, he writes his number down onto a napkin before handing it to the girl.
Listen, if you ever need anything, you should be able to get a hold of me at this number. Don't be afraid to call alright?
She nods her head as she walks towards the door, leaving Pegasus to think about everything he had just heard. She was, in a way, right. He didn't really want Angelica to be put on hold as he went about his job. She didn't need that, she deserved better, and that's what she was getting. But Pegasus had other things to worry about now, such as Slither. Angelica and Sean had their own matches to worry about, and Pegasus had nothing to do with them. Well, nothing physical anyway, although his soul was on the line in one match. No, his match was the main event, and it was for the PCW world title.
It didn't get much larger than that, main event at a PPV. Slither wouldn't go down without a fight either. Pegasus knew he'd have his work cut out for him as Slither was proving to be quite a champion. Luckily for Pegasus, Slither was just coming off of a loss, and he was just coming off a win. Hopefully his momentum would carry on and he would be able to defeat Slither. Even if he lost though, he still would have the Icemann Invite... and that would certainly be quite a challenge as well.
Looking up to the clock on the wall, Pegasus decides it's time to head back to the hotel. Laying down a few dollars for the drinks, he stands and leaves. The whole way back to the hotel he could do nothing but think of Brittany and the strength you have to have to be able to do something such as she was. To put everything you could have had, everyone you could have had, and to push it away because you don't want it to be affected by what your life is or was like, that is true strength.
OOC: Ya happy now Sam? Huh... ARE YA!... you better be
