As I held Whisper in my arms, I felt strange. I was no stranger to a women’s touch but this just felt….different. It felt almost like she was about to cry “Bad things happen to those that love me. I don’t want it to happen to you as well. It would be better for you to forget about me. My past always returns to haunt me. It will never be truly over. I didn’t know what to say, I was very quickly falling in love with this women, and she was afraid of hurting me. “Bad things may happen, but I'm not afraid, nothing is going to happen to me. Let me help you end it, let me face your past with you.” I could feel her tense up, like she was either ready to run, kick my ass, or both, but I wasn’t running, not this time.
That was a week ago. But my state of mind has remained very linear since then. Whisper, Whisper, Whisper, that one thought has dominated my mind. Even during my match with Pegasus, I wasn’t all their. As much as it sounds like an excuse, well I can’t come up with a reason why it isn’t. Plain and simple, I lost. He had to cheat to win, but it was still a hell of a match, not quite the rematch I had in mind, but it was our rematch none the less. But I can still say I lost because my mind wasn’t focused. Bullshit, I’ve never been one for making excuses, so why was I trying to start doing it now. A wins a win and a loss is a loss. Win, lose, whatever, I just needed to move on and worry about my next match.
Sydal. Luis made it perfectly clear that I wasn’t allowed to lay a hand on him after my little stunt two weeks ago, but with Deception drawing nearer my time was coming closer as well. This Sunday at the PPV, I finally got my chance to shut that blow hard up, and I would enjoy doing it. Personally I hate ladder matches, ever since that fucking glass match, they just kind of bothered me, oh wait I remember why now, I ALMOST FUCKING DIED. But that’s not important, Sydal is no where near the athlete that Pegasus is, so this won’t be nearly as bad.
It’s really weird, until I met her, the only thing I cared about was my title, win and the fans love you, lose and your yesterdays news. And that’s what mattered to me, having the admiration and love of the fans, hearing the cheers as I rocked whoever I was facing that night with one big move after another. That doesn’t matter to me anymore though, there’s only one person I care about now, the angel. Not Angelica, but her teacher, her mentor, her friend. Whisper was who I cared about now, and it broke my heart to hear her voice break. I’ve heard bones break, I’ve heard feral screams escape a mans lips, but I have never heard anything as bad as the sound of my heart breaking that night.
It was three in the morning, common sense said go to bed you fucking retard, but my body wouldn’t listen, to many thoughts running through my head. Last weeks loss, this weeks match, and of course Rebecca, Rebecca Curci, Whisper. I needed something to do to get my mind off everything, thank god Luis kept a gym running in the arena 24 hours a day, and there was always someone there. With something to focus on, I was finally able to stop pacing around my apartment. I could care less what I looked like at three A.M, so I didn’t bother to dress for the occasion, on the contrary, seeing as how I was just going for a work out, I probably over dressed. I threw on running shoes, sweatpants, an under armor beater, and a sweatshirt with the arms torn off, like I said, over dressed.
It wasn’t that far from my apartment to the arena, so I decided to run, it would serve as a decent warm up. As I sprinted the final three blocks to the arena, I was disappointed, that had taken less time than I thought it would; guess I would just have to step it up even more when I started the real work. As I keyed in the security code to the garage door, I was disappointed to not see a single car there, save for the Semi’s used to transport the sets. Oh well, even alone I could still get one hell of a work out. As I started jogging to the gym, up and over stairs, spinning and juking, anything I could do to work up a bigger sweat, I noticed something yellow in the garbage can. Don’t ask me why I noticed it, but it was a T-shirt that said YAY FOR LANDRY. Weird shit I know, but I didn’t really have time to care. Well even if I had the time, I still didn’t care. It was a pretty short jaunt from the garage to the gym, but I was determined to make it count.
I took me about five minutes to get to the gym; it should take two, which was a good sign. I still was kind of hoping that there would be someone to work with when I got there. I figured, what the hell, maybe they ran like I did, but no. There wasn’t anybody there, so enough with fucking around I needed to get to work. I don’t know how much time passed, and again I don’t particularly care, maybe it was half an hour, maybe it was four hours. But I had worked myself nearly into a stupor; I didn’t even hear the door to the gym open. Whisper entered the gym and noticed me immediately. I, unfortunately, can’t say the same, but it was enough to make me jump when a towel hit me in the back of my head. “Don’t you think you’ve done enough by now?”
I couldn’t help but grin as I shook my head vigorously, “I don’t know Whisper, did you have something else in mind?” She just smiled at me, “I might, but working yourself into the ground doesn't exactly do you much good before a ppv. Training is good, destroying yourself with to little time to recover. Never works well, believe me, I tried it to.” Realization hit like a ton of bricks, and it hurt. “I guess you’re right, truthfully I have no idea how long I’ve even been here, what time is it?” Whisper checked her watch with a smirk, “Almost four P.M.” You could have used my eyes for dinner plates they were so large, they had to be, the certainly felt that stretched. "F...four P.M. You mean four PM as in four hours past noon?” She just stood there shaking her head and laughing so softly it was nearly silent, “Is there another kind of four PM?” I started laughing at the redundancy of my question. "Ya dumb question sorry, it just kind of shocked me that’s all. I got here about 12 hours ago, I didn’t realize that I had been here that long," Looking around dumbly, trying not to seem distracted, "So what’s up?" She just kind of looked at me like I was retarded, “Shouldn’t I be asking you that, working out for 12 hours straight, and starting at four AM. What’s up with that?”
Another sheepish grin crossed my face, "Ya, couldn't sleep, to much energy so I decided to come work some of it off that’s all, didn’t mean to work quite so hard just working out." She shot me another little roguish grin, “You really should, and I do mean really, take a shower. I looked down at my feet and noticed a puddle that had not been there moments ago, "Ya I suppose I should huh, tell you what, would you like to go get something to eat, after I clean up a bit of course." “Sure, but just hit the showers already, the janitors have enough to do around here without having to clean up after you.” She said with a devilish little wink.
I smiled back at her as I turned towards the showers; I was finally getting my date with Whisper. About 20 minutes later, freshly showered and clothed I reemerged from the locker room. “There, that’s much better,” she remarked as she looked over me approvingly. “You think so huh,” I shot back at her, “glad you approve,” I added with a roguish grin. “Yes I do think so, anything is better than hours and hours of sweat.” She said to me with a wink and a smirk. “So now that I'm not a walking water fall, where would you like to go to eat?” I asked trying to muster every ounce of confidence I had. She just smiled, “Surprise me.” She said. “A surprise huh, what happens if you don’t like my surprise?” I asked with a little grin. “Oh, don’t worry, you’ll know about it afterwards.”
Half an hour later we pulled into the parking lot of a small restaurant simply called Charlies. I had known the Charlie for about three year, she was a great lady, and she had a gift with food. She saw me as soon as I walked in the front door, “Tom good to see you again, just one tonight?” I shook my head, “Nope not tonight Charlie, table for two please somewhere out of the way.” “Not a problem old friend, not a problem at all.” Charlie led us to a small table in the back of the restaurant and Whisper asked as we walked, “So that is your name, Tom? "Yes ma’am, what you didn't think my parents had actually named me LoKi did you" I asked with a grin. “No, I suppose not. My parents didn’t name me Whisper either,” she said with a wink as she sat down at the table Charlie finally stopped at. I helped Whisper into her seat and took my own as Charlie left us each a menu and a promise to be back in a few minutes to take our orders, “No Rebecca, they didn’t did they, so what would you like to eat? I haven’t tried everything, but everything I have tried has been phenomenal.” She looked over the menu briefly. “I’ll have steak.” "Steak huh, are you sure you want something that heavy this early, they've got some really good sandwiches and she's also got really good salads." I asked, trying to keep the note of surprise out of my voice.
She gave me that feral grin that I had become so accustomed to seeing on her face, “I’m a carnivore my dear, I always eat some sort of meat around five,” looking at the clock,” and it’s nearly feeding time.” "So it is, so it is. Well I guess the pretty lady gets what the pretty lady wants. So what would the pretty lady like to drink" I asked, trying to be as charming as possible. It either worked or I just looked like an ass, one of the two. “Just water Tom, thank you.” Anything besides the water, or is that all you want. If you’re worried about costing me money, by all means it's not a problem, get whatever you'd like. Charlie has a pretty good selection of coffee and teas." “No, just the water is fine.” I spotted Charlie walking out of the kitchen and I called her over, "OK Charlie I think we're ready, Whisper here would like your porter house, rare. Actually why don’t you make that two porter house's, both rare. And then, water for the lady and green tea for me.” Charlie scribbled down our order, read it back, and then disappeared back in to the kitchen to give the order to the cooks.
Whisper arched an eyebrow at me, “Green tea?” Another grin came over my face, seems I've worn a lot of those in the past few days. "Yup green tea. It just calms me down and keeps me, I dunno, anchored for lack of a better term." “Awww, are you nervous just because of lil ole’ me?” The grin grew a little broader, "Would it make you happier if I said yes, Well actually no, its not exactly nerves, It's just that it helps me relax. It doesn't matter what kind of tea it is, but it just seems to relax my muscles, put me into a more restive state. Sorry, I suppose I sound pretty stupid, going all Zen on you and what not?" Whisper just kind of laughed at me and shook her head, “Actually you don’t, I drink tea and meditate every day.” My eyes kind of widened in surprised. "Really, ya I meditate everyday on life, love, and my future, but I usually quite after about a minute because I get bored." I said with a little laugh. Whisper smiled at me, “I enter a different mindset when I meditate. I can go from good to evil, and back. I can go from being me Rebecca to becoming Whisper, The Arch Angel when I enter the right mindset. Not everyone likes me when I do that.”
All I could do was nod, “I suppose not, but as far as I’m concerned, there’s no mindset that you could enter that I wouldn’t love, because no matter which persona you choose to become, it’s still you deep down.” She smiled faintly, “We’ll have to see won’t we.” I dropped the subject after that, seemed like it was kind of a sensitive subject. While we made small talk to food came, exactly as ordered and we kept up the small talk all through out dinner, never talking of anything really important. As dinner came to a close I paid for the meal, left a sizable tip on the table, and walked out the door with Whisper. “I had a really good time.” “So did I.” "Can I give you a ride home?" Whisper just frowned at me, before breaking out into laughter, “You could except for the small fact that you don’t have a car here, I drove remember.” Wow, I wonder I look as stupid as I sound when I do stupid things like that. I just grinned sheepishly, “So we did, well then. Would you mind giving me a ride home?” Whisper just laughed as she headed towards the car, “Of course not, hop in.”
The ride home was uneventful, she pulled in front of my apartment and as I got out a thought crossed my mind, "Whisper, would you like to come up for a drink?" She looked up at me with question filled eyes before shutting down her cars engine, “Sure why not, after all a drink never hurt anyone.” I led the way up to my room and never before had I felt so embarrassed, because quite frankly, the place was a mess. “Ya, sorry. It’s kind of dirty right now, I don’t spend much time here so it doesn’t get cleaned as often as I would like.” I walked over to the mini bar in the kitchen, “What’s your poison.” I called back into the living room. Whisper looked around the apartment and smirked, “Don’t worry about the mess, and just a Jack and Coke please?” “Not a problem,” I called back. I took out a bottle of Jack Daniels and a two-liter of coke and began to mix them. I finished that up and brought Whisper her drink, “Here you go, Jack and Coke.”
Whisper took the drink from him and took a sip from the glass. The warm feeling of the whiskey came over her and she relaxed a bit. “Thank you, but after this drink I should be heading home.” "Ya I suppose, but I think you should at the very least call a cab, I don't want anything to happen to you. I know it was only one drink, but I couldn't live with myself if something happened to you after you had been at my place. You understand." I asked. Whisper frowned, “Ya I understand, but I’m really fine, I can drive with no problem. But if it would make you happy, I’ll call a cab.” "Thank you Whisper, I just couldn't live with myself if something happened to you. Of course your always welcomed to stay here." I offered. Whisper smirked and walked towards him with a seductive smile upon her face.. She stopped right in front of him her chest barely touching his when either one breathed.. She gently kissed him for a moment. “Not so fast Romeo, not so fast.” Only then did the magnitude of what I had just offered sink in. I was fighting the rising blush on my cheeks, "I...errr...I mean to say, I......mmm.....ya. Any way, wasn't quite meant like that, I simply meant that if you wanted to stay here, I would sleep on the couch and you could have the bed." She just laughed at me, “Thanks for the offer, but I think I’m just going to call a cab, I’ll be here in the morning to pick up my car. I grinned like a moron, yet again. Ya that works to." walking into my room, I grabbed my phone and called the cab company. The cab was here in about twenty minutes and Whisper was gone, again.
