[Bakersfield, California/3-19/9:00 am PST]
The routine of Curtis York getting up early in the morning finally came to an end, as he was asleep til eight fourty five in the morning. Generally, he gets up early enough to be up with Liberty (or as she gets called for short, Libby). But Melanie decided she would do the routine for her boyfriend this morning. Oh, did we forget to mention they weren't at home, but rather up north with Mel's parents??
Curtis stirs silently in the bedroom as Liberty comes charging into the bedroom. Curt glares groggily at his daughter, but before he knows it, it's too late. The dark haired little three year old has craweled into bed with her daddy and has taken it upon herself to jump up and down, proclaiming it's time for him to get out of bed. Curtis moans and laughs gently at this showing of "love", but alas, he just pulls Libby down onto his chest and looks right into her big bold brown eyes.
"Your silly you know that Liberty? Know what else you are? My special wittle girl."
And then as Liberty is allowed to be let go, her escape is all for not as Curtis pulls her back and begins to blow on her tiny stomach. Libby laughs and giggles at the affection from dad, and it only continues to spill over until Curtis decides that this time for real, he'll let her go. Liberty finally crawls off the bed and goes into another part of the home. This allows Curtis York to lay back down in bed and do some serious thinking...
"I have to tell Mel that I'm going to be competiting in Pure Class Wrestling. I don't know how she's going to take the news however..."
You see, Curtis hasn't told his wife and daughter that he was going to be competiting in a higher up wrestling promotion and not the small time independant circuts. Melanie's greatest fear is that her man was going to get seriously injured. So far, that hasn't happened. But like the old adage goes "There's a first time for everything", and it's that thought that has York worried. So as he sits up out of his bed, with the sunlight cascading on his ripped body, Curtis runs his hands through his hair and yawns. Eventually he pulls himself out of bed and gets himself ready for the day.
He dons a shirt that has a screen printed picture of Liberty when she was first born. It reads "Daddy's Little Girl : Liberty Jade York." underneath in bold cursive lettering. On the backside of the black t-shirt, it has her birthdate of July 4, 2002 across the shoulderblades. A pair of loose fit levi blue jeans and some plain white socks finish off the attire of the day.
"Now is a better time than any I suppose."
Those were the last words Curtis spoke, until he had Melanie and Liberty isolated in another room. Her parents we're off to church this morning, so this was a easy choice to pick a room. It's just Curtis picked the furthest one in case Mel didn't take the news that good. But we're about to find out.
"Melanie my love...I have something to tell you....and you may not like it..."
Mel slowly sat down, looking confused and scared of what the news oould be. Curtis looked away, gulped and looked a bit nervous. Liberty was busy playing with some of her toys, so she was occupied right now. As Curtis looked down towards his daughter, he smiled and seemed to have gotten the courage up. But before he was able to get out what he wanted to say, Melanie looked pale from head to toe.
"Oh....No....Curtis.....please....please tell me there isn't another woman....please...."
Curtis looked thrown back by that statement. But he quickly shut down that fear of Melanie's before it had the chance to spread in her heart like wildfire. Mel breathed a sigh of relief and let her man know that she never wanted to lose him. Curtis knew this as this wasn't the first time this has happened. It didn't bother him, in fact, he felt more loved knowing that Melanie loved him that much. But her fear was put to rest and now the truth can come out to light.
"Melanie, I'm headed cross country to Pure Class Wrestling. It's..."
He gets cut off
"I know what it is and who they are....to a degree Curtis. Why couldn't you tell me this sooner? I mean...you know how I feel about your well being in there. It was hard enough that I had to worry about you during your time in the indepedants. Hell, I got scared just watching your amateur days...."
Curtis nods and has a seat next to his girlfriend. He wraps his right arm around her and has Libby come join him to his left. The females get pulled in close and tight as Curtis is going to elaborate some more.
"I know you worry babe, and I appriciate that. But this is on a grander stage. More money to be made. Better support. Perhaps even a relocation..."
"California is my home Curt. I'm not about to leave here. Especially for South Carolina."
Curtis laughs as Liberty takes note and giggles herself. Melanie looks over at her and gives the motion for 'shhh', almost like the X chromosones needed to stay together.
"That's North Carolina Doll, and well, we don't have to leave here. But I'd be making cross country trips every week. Go out there two nights a week, and come back here for about four to five. This is a great oppourtunity for us Mel....trust me, it'll all work out. I mean, my ring name did...or I should say does..."
Melanie looks at her boyfriend.
"Yep, I'm going to be known as Kurtis Liberty."
"Lib-ity daddy!" speaks Liberty from the side
Curtis laughs and kisses his daughter on the head. He then agrees with her, knowing not to argue with a three year old, cause the result is always the same. A win. But he didn't feel like winning with her today, instead, he needed the approval of his girlfriend.
"Cute Curtis, Cute. But..." (she sighs and follows with a half smile) "Oh go ahead and have fun. Just PLEASE, be careful and know that I...." (she looks over at her daughter) "We both support your decision."
Curtis looks overjoyed as he shares a passionate kiss with Melainie (whom looks like Sara Watkins from Nickel Creek for anyone wondering). He then relinquishes his girls and gets up. Leaving the room, he announces he has some calls to make and an agent to hire...and he knows just the person he says.
"Who?" says Melanie confused
Yes, Just who can it be?
