[The scene opens with a view out of a window, looking out into the dead of night. All that can be heard is the faint whistling of the wind stroking the window pane. The trees just outside of the window bristle gently and all that can be seen on the street below are a few parked cars, the asphalt and 2 black and white cats staring at each other in silence.
We pull back from the window to see that we are in a bedroom, signified by the sight of a set of neutrally coloured fitted wardrobes and the bottom of a pine bed. We pull back more to see a set of white bed sheets and under them, lying face up towards the ceiling, Non Compos Mentis.
As he lies in his bed we hear a noise from somewhere near. It sounds like a cracking noise. Soon it turns into more of a scratching noise and then stops immediately. Then comes a clunk.
Although these noises are reasonably loud Mentis remains still and asleep. Suddenly footsteps are heard approaching the room. We turn around to see the door but no one comes through. The darkness of the room becomes apparent as the moonlight ceases past the bed and all that is left past that point is dim darkness.
Suddenly we see the right side of a face emerge from behind the doorframe. The face looks feminine as the lightly makeup covered but still very attractive dark blue eyes looks decidedly female. Another dead giveaway is the flowing black hair that goes down past her shoulder. She scans the room with the one eyes that is visible before deciding all is safe and walking quietly walking into the room and resting on the doorframe, staring at Mentis.]
Woman: I saw you on TV two weeks ago…
I was just flicking through the channels and there you were…
Wrestling…
Who would have thought it…
The die-hard Christian do-gooder…
Fighting with another man for nothing…
I remember you all that way back…
Since before the incident… since before we got separated…
We were good together Sean…
Or is it Non Compos Mentis now…
Nice choice of name Sean… I did some searching and found out what it meant…
Not in control of ones affairs…
From what I was told about where you went when we got separated that sound like exactly the right type of name…
You have to understand Sean… they would have taken me too if I had stayed…
You can’t just expect me to get thrown in jail or worse… do you know what would have happened to me…
From what I hear the asylum was the making of you anyway… you grew into this…
But you still aren’t what you should be…
[Mentis rolls around a bit in his sleep and then falls back to where he was before.
The woman get up off the wall and walks around the room before settling at the side of Mentis’ bed.
Now standing in the moonlight we see that she is dressed in a tight black tank top and similarly tight black pants. Other than her Caucasian skin tone and deep blue eyes she is completely black in clothing and other appearance.]
Woman: I heard what Pegasus said about you as well…
He said that you needed to fight whatever evil was inside you…
Or he would fight you…
Well… from what I gather he did fight you… twice… and lost both…
I have seen what you are becoming Sean…
You’re finally becoming what you are supposed to be…
A fighter…
A fighter for yourself…
Finally… Even back then you were still a walkover…
You would do anything anyone told you…
That’s how you ended up in the asylum… because I told you to preach…
You have to understand why I did that… we didn’t have jobs… we barely had homes… we needed money…
You needed to do something…
And you did what I told you to…
[Mentis rolls around more and leans onto his side before letting out a small groan in his sleep.
The woman walks around the bed again, this time towards the side the Mentis is looking towards and crouches down to look at his face.]
Woman: You are so different now…
Before you were weak… a pushover… you never stood up for yourself…
Now you make a living out of it…
You work in a business that thrives on the destruction of people…
And it has taken its toll on you…
[The woman reaches out towards Mentis’ face and touches a large scar on his forehead.]
Woman: These scars…
Almost as though this business has ripped into your soul…
Or is this the real you…
Or is it these voices you say so much about…
Is this simply the Nature of the Beast…
The hidden viciousness of a creature… that only shows itself when it needs something…
What do you need Sean…
You say you NEED that title around your waist…
But there is something else isn’t there…
You need guidance… towards something that you think you need…
But there is something you need… just not what you are searching for… what you are rejecting…
I always said you needed to stand up for yourself and you are… but you do it the wrong way…
You only fight those who wish to fight you… that is not the way you will progress…
It is these people who you respect that hold you back…
Pegasus…
Banks… from what I heard you respected him and then he screwed you…
The Captain… The Icemann… those who have authority…
They were going to hand him the title…
They weren’t going to let you have a chance to fight for it…
It is these people that conspire to bring you down…
If you want to progress you must fight these people…
You must fight those who halt you to finally push forward…
As you are that won’t happen…
But there is one aspect of you that can do that…
The voices…
[Mentis moans once more and then opens his eyes to see the face of the intruder. Suddenly he acknowledges the scene and scuttles to the other side of his bed in panic but then takes focus on the face of the mystery assailant. And calms down slightly but still breathes deeply and quickly.]
Non Compos Mentis: [Huff]…[Huff]…[Huff]… Sofia?…
[The scene then slowly fades to black as the two figures, one standing one in a panicky sat up position on the end of the bed, stare at each other in silence, one in waiting the other in blank confusion.]
