The end of an era is dawning on us today. The times of the great man have finally entered their last stages as he tries to hang on to his last shreds of dignity and identity against the odds once again. His last words draw near as his career lies on its death bed, resisting the virus that has infected his being for one last fling, one last hurrah. The one thing that he has yet to accomplish, the one thing he regrets, lies ahead and is likely to finish him off for good. The old warrior has seen the end but it refuses to see him until this one last task is completed. The old warrior has grown weakened, belated, lack-lustre and world weary, his attempts to hang on to his life are failing, his legacy is falling apart. This is the end of an era alright, and good riddance to it.
This old warrior has made great strides for his chosen home. He has made it known, he has given it a reputation. The man has taken it to the heights it that is at by fighting with honour, decency and passion for what he believes in. He has given PCW everything it could ever dream but has taken more than it could ever want to lose. You don’t understand? Well let me explain. This man may have created a reputation for PCW and he may have created an image, but make no mistake, that image is one of a clown.
Whether or not he is actually an Elf is disputable, in fact flat out questionable. But what we cannot ignore, and we can ignore he is an Elf, is that he walks around holding the biggest, most reputable title belt in PCW with Blue hair and pointy ears. I mean, BLUE hair, POINTY ears. He is making a laughing stock out of PCW and the only reason he has succeeded in taking PCW to this level is that the fans, in their infinite stupidity, actually felt sorry for you and were encapsulated in this vision of ‘Outsider’ that they decided to back you towards the title. You have created an atmosphere around PCW that has degraded it into a freak show, a comedy house of horrors with Elves and Vampires, yes Kaden Keene I do mean you there, that try and pull their way through with a gimmick and a prayer.
I, on the other hand, do not count myself amongst this clan of outsiders and rejects. I may have been there once, living on the streets as a nomad, but now I am not. I have pulled myself away from being a reject and hoister myself up into my luxury apartment. I am now a normal person, or at least as normal as I can be. I can easily mix with people from everyday life without so much as a lift of an eyebrow or hilarious whispers behind my back. You, however, when people see your blue hair and your pointy ears must burst with laughter and aim their suspicious, glaring focus on you. It must feel like you are being persecuted for who you really are, punished for being the person you have always been.
[The pictures on the wall finally come into view. They are small objects of around fifteen centimetres square in measurement. The contents of the pieces of paper are a thin white border surrounding a darker centre. We look towards the first picture, now what we realise to be a Polaroid picture of a figure standing in a wrestling ring. The strong, muscular figure in the picture is familiar to our eyes as he is the owner and founder of PCW, Luis ‘Icemann’ Malave. The ominous, fear inducing stature of the man is bewildering as he stands proud in the middle of the wrestling ring he created. We steadily more to the right to see another Polaroid stuck onto the wall via some substance on its back. This time the picture is still of a figure standing in a wrestling ring, standing proud like he has scored a massive victory over an intense rival. However, unlike The Icemann, this man is clearly wearing a title belt around his waist, if fact it is the PCW World Title and the man occupying it is the massive figure of Ace Anderson. The former World Champion and now retired wrestler is standing above the lifeless corpse of another former World Champion, Slither after what is clearly the moment where Ace won his first World Title.
Once more we move along to see yet another wrestler stood inside a PCW wrestling ring. This time it is the even larger stature of Marcus Murdoch, otherwise known as The Prophet. The former International and Tag Team champion is standing with his usual contemptuous expression and domineering stature and holding aloft his first International Title.
Further along we come along to the end of the line, seeing a blank Polaroid stuck to the wall in place of another glorious warrior. The only clue to its purpose is the character written in bold marker pen on the bottom side of the white border. An ominous and impeding Question Mark stamped onto the glossy material. The black interior of the picture shows nothing of its possible future content.]
This is the true Hall of Fame of PCW. I wont be arrogant the way that everybody thinks I am by putting myself in the lineup. Believe me, I may think I deserve a shot at the World Title but I have not earned the right to be in that list yet, not since I only have 2 North American Titles and a Tag Title to my name. No, I wont have earned that right until I beat the new World Champion, Grimm.
Still, there is a place waiting in that list for somebody. A person has managed to earn their way into a list of the greatest wrestlers in this industry. Admittedly because of the fan’s love for him in the absence of any respect whatsoever. Lantlas, unfortunately you have earned this right after holding the World Title longer than any other person before you. So your prize in the end of your esteemed career in wrestling is being on this list and being recognised as the Second Greatest champion in PCW’s history. That’s right Lantlas, Second.
You see Lantlas, you may have held that World Title for a long time, in fact you held it longer than any other World Champion had done before you. But you are not the longest reigning Champion in PCW, you have not beaten the most opponents during your title reign and you have certainly not proved your skill in the ring as much as the person that holds the record to both of those. ME. I am the longest reigning champion in PCW and now that you have lost your most prized possession that gap will only grow longer. Your Era ends but my run continues. You have not beaten the same range of competitors as I have. Form most of your title reign you faced Ace Anderson in what I have to admit was a great series of matches. But, nevertheless, by that last match you knew each other like the back of your hands. I on the other hand have faced opponents from all different styles, genres and techniques. I have beaten, amongst others, Seth Sinn, Dan Ellis, The Byrd, Anthony Douglas, James Keenen and Kaden Keene.
I was twice the champion you ever where and the only reason you ever got to win that World Championship ahead of me was because of the fans. Yes, them again. They didn’t want to see someone like me holding that belt because I didn’t represent what they wanted in PCW. I didn’t get my second chance at the title because they wanted to see a blue haired pointy eared freak like you Lantlas.
I have proved to everybody inside PCW that I am the greatest champion in this company, even ahead of you. I have proved that I deserve a shot at the World Title more than anybody else and that I would beat anybody who stands in my path. I have had to wait for over six months since my first World Title shot. I have been looked over and demoted for over half a year. I have been stuck in the same place since then, simply waiting for my chance and now, NOW, I have proved my Validity as the number one contender to the throne of PCW. I have proved once and for all that I am the person that deserves that chance at greatness.
[The list of people on the wall reads as a short list of the Greats of PCW. With the great Owner, Luis Malave, holding over 50 World Titles over his distinguished career and being widely known as a wrestling Legend. Ace Anderson, the former Tag, North American and World champion and first person to secure 40 career wins in PCW. Finally, the imposing Prophet, the former Tag and International champion that has endured through the length of PCW’s short but esteemed existence.
The question mark represents a choice, a choice of who will be the next to be added to the list. The retiring Icon, Lantlas, or the possible future World Champion, Non Compos Mentis. Both could arguable be worth a place somewhere on the list. This Hall of Fame marks the place where all wrestlers attempt to reach through their long, painful careers. This is the place where every wrestler wishes to be, a place that truly means they will be remembered.]
So this week is the end of your Era Lantlas. This week your legacy comes to an end and you will be forgotten. And if you ask me its not a moment to soon. You have finally decided that it is time to end your life inside the squared circle and let somebody else take the spotlight. Me.
I have been waiting in the rafters for month and months until PCW’s obsession with you faded or something happened to take you away. I have had to give every second of my existence to not lose it and force my way into the picture by possibly doing something stupid. Last time I got a shot I nearly got fired because I smashed down The Captains door. This time I wasn’t going to take that risk and all I had to do was wait.
My patience was waning I have to admit, I was losing my nerve. Another couple of months of hanging on and I would have done somebody and injury by going psychotic. You have finally left and now I get my chance, now I get a chance to secure a shot at the title and I will not pass it up.
This week on Trauma it is War Games. A place where everyone will enter as teams but when it comes down to it, we’re all fighting for an individual prize, that shot at the World Title. But I know that now is my time and here is my place and that War Games is my podium for my final burst at success. This place is what I need to give me that boost towards the title. A place where the odds are evened and there is no popularity contest. Where all that matters is beating everybody into a bloody pulp and getting the win.
This is the place where I will show the fans that I am better than any of their beloved heroes and heroines. I will show them that I am the rightful World Champion because I can beet their whole team of favourites on my own without help from the lackeys and rejects on my team.
Yes, War Games is my Podium and the World Title is nearly in reach. Trauma will be the night when the face of PCW changes forever with the loss of a Champion and the gain of a Legend. PCW will lose the laughing stock of Lantlas but it will gain me. It will be the end of an Era alright, and good riddance to it.
