I live off of purple grapes and tea and Premonitions scribbled onto narrow scraps of paper Which are drawn from a tweed hat Or printed out and nestled into Foreign cookies that taste like cardboard. No, I don’t believe in Fate, But I believe in Hope. Thank god For the beautiful souls in my life, Their words tucked away in my memory Like a sigh, like a truth, like a song. Thank god For the water wells into which we toss our penny dreams Which are worth so much more than one measly cent. We wish for health, love, and happiness, And the wisdom to know the differences amongst them. Thank god for differences. Thank god for similarities. No, I don’t believe in God, But I believe in friends. After the sun goes down You can find quiet In places where streetlamps glow yellow through branches And rooftops reach up to the moon. The peace that will sparkle your eyes, That smooth resolve, That placating calm Will leave a print on my heart forever. No, I don’t believe in Coincidence, But I believe in you.
