Joel McHale: βYou know who I am, I donβt care who you are; letβs continue? I am here to mediate a first for the E! Network β Ladies, gentlemen, armchair quarterbacks living in your motherβs basement, E! Presents Pure Class Wrestlingβ¦β
The feed then switched from that of the E! Network Burbank studios to that of an outdoor pavilion located in the parking lot of the Pure Class Arena. Different fan events and booths seemed to line the grounds, but the focal point was that of the large pavilion setup for the conference. With a bright smile, Shane Dodge took to the podium and started up the event.
Shane Dodge: Ladies and gentlemen, I hope youβve all had a great time with the events of this weekend, but now itβs time for the crown jewel. In a little over two weeks time Return to Glory will emanate from Pure Class Arena, and what better way to kick things off, on location, than to hear from the superstars who will be participating in the event!β
The crowd roared in response, and Shane smiled and began to shuffle his cue cards in a rather comedic manner. There dry heat made things a bit on the warm side, but the energy in the pavilion made that easy to ignore. With the introduction being said, he continued.
Shane Dodge: We have a great lineup of stars today, but why not kick things off with a bang? Letβs face it, thereβs a storm cloud looming over Return to Glory. Over the past two months, the AWAssholes have been making their presence known here in Pure Class Wrestling. At the pay-per-view, they have a chance to make an even bigger impact in the form of two title matchesβ¦.β
He paused, glancing down at the cards and was quick to noticeably grimace. That grimace, however, was quickly replaced with a look of determination. Shuffling them once more, he brushed off the feelings, and continued.
Shane Dodge:βFirst, to the podium, a man who needs little introduction. His actions over the last month have put everyone on notice, and at the Pay-Per-View he will be facing Andy D for the North American Championship. I present to you, former AWA World Heavyweight Champion β MONROE!β
It was then that his music started playing, and it was a new theme. The crowd would recognize it as βChinese Democracyβ by Guns βN Roses. After a minute or so, MONROE walked on to the stage to a chorus of boos. He was rather dressed down for the occasion, wearing a pair of all black sweats which sported his patented βStrong Styleβ logo on the back. As he approached Shane Dodge, he noticeably chuckled, before taking to the podium and smirking.
MONROE: βYou guys are kind of giving me the impression that you donβt like meβ¦β
With a slow hiss, he spoke to the crowd and the answered him with another round of jeers directed towards the superstar. Their disdain seemed to do nothing but amuse him, as a grin soon painted itself across the manβs face from ear-to-ear.
MONROE: βLetβs get down to business, and get this thing rolling. At Return to Glory, Iβve got a match against Andy D. Itβs funny, as I was supposed to face him in my first match here, but we all saw how that went, correct?β
Pausing briefly, he took in the atmosphere around him, listening and watching as the fans took in each and every word that was spoken. He didnβt wait long before he continued speaking to them, but this time, there was a bit of attitude in his voice.
MONROE: βThen, I got take on Lantlas. All of you thought Iβd lose, but you all saw how that went, correct?β
With the mention of the World Championβs name, the crowd was worked into a frenzy. Taking a step back from the podium, he motioned for the crowd to simmer down. Instead, they replied by cheering even louder for their conquering hero. MONROE nodded, as though he had expected their reaction, but was quick to retort.
MONROE: βIβm guessing you wonβt be so loud when Rhodes knocks him down a peg or two?β
The cheers almost instantly turned into an overwhelming sea of rage, and it was all directed at the competitor standing behind the podium. Rolling his tongue around in his mouth, he soaked in their hatred with a vibrant smile.
MONROE:βIβm guessing youβll have the same reaction when I claim the North American title, am I right?β
Snickering, he watched as it seemed as though the audience was ready to turn into a rabid frenzy. It was then that Shane Dodge stepped up to the podium, as if ready to damage control, and addressed the crowd while letting MONROE stand off to the side, quite content with the reaction he had received.
Shane Dodge: βAt this point, weβll open up for questions. Weβre going to limit each superstar to five questions to keep things goingβ¦β
MONROE had taken a seat on the end of the table to the right side of the podium. In front of each seat was a microphone for the selected superstar to speak into. Shane looked over the crowd, and soon picked out crowd member in the back. A staffer approached the man, a portly fellow wearing an βElven Warriorβ t-shirt.
Shawn Hansen:βHey Monroe, Shawn Hansen. In only your second match in PCW, you fought to a draw against one of the greatest ββ
MONROE leaned into his microphone briefly.
MONROE: βArguably, I think you forgot that wordβ¦β
The correction drew jeers from the crowd, but didnβt seem to unsettle the fan any. He spoke to the staffer for a moment before continuing with his question.
Shawn Hansen:βLike I was saying, you fought a draw against one of the greatest superstars to ever come through PCW, Lantlas. At the PPV, youβre facing off against Andy D. Have you been nervous at all? With such a high-level of competition so early in your career here in PCW, have you been intimidated at all?β
MONROE leaned forward, with a mild look of interest on his face as to the question that was posed to him by the fan.
MONROE:βWith all due respect, I understand that these guys are highly respected competitors here in Pure Class Wrestling, but this isnβt my first rodeo. When I joined CWA β google it β I was an outsider looking in, like we are here. Most of them didnβt give me a chance, and they werenβt a fan of my style. Iβm very confident in my abilities, I always have been and I always will be, and that confidence turned into a career of proving them all wrong. I capped that off by winning the AWA title and beating two of their greatest competitors in the process β one of which is MJW. To answer your question; no, Iβm not intimidated in the slightest. If I was it would be pretty obvious to me that I had picked the wrong line of work. There is no room for hesitation. Next?β
The staff combed through the crowd, and this time picked out a rather scraggly looking young man. He looked to be between the ages of eighteen to twenty-five, and was decked out in PCW gear. Nothing pointing towards a particular superstar but it was quite obvious he was a fan.
Jeremy Samuels:βHi, Jeremy Samuels. With your Loss at Trauma, are you afraid that maybe all the momentum going into the match belongs to Andy D?β
Shane was quick to step in.
Shane Dodge: βDo you factor in the loss at Trauma to your strategy?β
If the question hadnβt been enough, Shaneβs interjection was more than enough to get MONROEβs blood boiling. Pausing, he let his nerves calm before leaning into the microphone to address the audience at large.
MONROE: βThe AWAssholes lost. I didnβt lose. I wasnβt pinned. I wasnβt beaten to the point of incoherence, last time I checked at the end of that match I was standing upright and looking right at Andy Dβ¦β
Shane was quick to jump in, not allowing another question from the audience but instead posing one of his own for the superstar. He knew what he was doing, and it seemed as though he knew just exactly what buttons to press to get a rise from MONROE.
Shane Dodge:βYouβre avoiding the question entirely, your team loss to Andyβs. Doesnβt that give him a bit of an upper hand?β
MONROE shot a seething glance in Shaneβs direction, rising from his chair he slithered towards the podium. His eyes never broke from gazing upon Shane, he didnβt stop at the podium, much to the crowdβs surprise. He offered the crowd a smirk, which was soon followed by a soft snerk, as he simply walked off the stage. A confused chatter seemed to take hold of the conference as a whole, but thatβs when Shane Dodge stepped in.
Shane Dodge: βWell, I think we can safely say that MONROE has left the building. But donβt fear, weβve got several other superstars who are ready and willing to answer your questions!β
OOC NOTE: I thought this would be a fun way for characters to mingle, if you don't have the time or want to join in, that's fine. I've done these, and have been a part of them on several different sites and they always seem to turn into fun little in-character threads. I'm hoping a thread like this is okay, if not I can delete it. As for the setting, Saturday August 4th, the day before the PPV itself. Post, answer questions, etc. then leave it open for the next superstar!
