A year ago, Justin vowed to put Damian Sorrow so deep into the back of his mind that he'd just about forgotten about the old rat completely. A week and a half ago, at the sight of the seven burning siblings in his own back yard, the "good doctor" found his way back to the front of the line.
Murdoc, Stormm's semi-final opponent in the Icemann Invitation had been the first to be accused of burning the trees that held so many memories for the Michaels, and given his past of conflagration, why shouldn't he have been? However, the idea was quickly dismissed; Murdoc wouldn't need cheap tricks or mind games, but just his own size and skill inside of the squared circle.
No doubt, Justin had to be worried about his first match of the night at Living a Legacy, but once he realized the only man who could have been behind the dastardly deed, all other thoughts left him. Not even the Force of Nature could look past it to focus on LoKi or Rick Majors, either one of his potential second opponents on a night, now, only a few days away. There had been plenty of time to mull over the details of yet ANOTHER first in the tournament for Justin, his first one on one again Murdoc, but given current events, and the fact that he had faced both LoKi and Majors a number of times, he had more important things to worry about, at least until that night.
The look on Damian's face was priceless. As the elderly man strolled up to the gates of Southwind Gardens, his place of employment for the last four decades, Justin gazed at the reflection of the blaze in the old man's eyes. The large, manor like structure, had caught fire; supposedly an electrical fire, at least that's what the investigation would turn up later.
It was a look of devastation, one that Damian has surely seen on Justin's face numerous times over the years, and the Force of Nature finally had sweet revenge. There was more to this story than a burnt building, however, but Justin knew that as soon as he saw Dr. Sorrow's face, that the torment he'd been put through over the last fifteen to twenty years was coming to an end.
As the doctor mumbled obscenities and pointed his fragile fingers, blaming Justin for it all, the only thoughts coming to his mind were those of home, family, and of course, the three men he was going to be standing tall over Sunday night after he claims the winner's spot on the Icemann Invitation tournament bracket for the second time in his career.
Murdoc, the man who conjures fire, and fear in the hearts of his opponents. A man much larger than Stormm, just as seasoned, and not at all intimidated by anyone in the tournament. One of the few advantages that Justin had over that man was one of the same advantages Murdoc had over him. They had never squared off one on one.
LoKi, someone Justin was very familiar with. They had been "friend" and foe to one another several times over the years. Only two one on one matches with one another, two matches in which they had split the decisions. There was plenty of history, however, and they had been teamed with and against each other multiple times as well. Of the two men on the other side of the brackets, LoKi would be the one Justin would be happier to face in the final.
And of course, Rick Majors. Justin had faced him three times since Majors came into the fold, and he hadn't won any of them. Two losses, and a draw in a Genesis title match just a couple months prior. He was a man that seemed to have nothing to lose, and despite his age, had a surprising amount of skill inside of the squared circle. If Justin had to be honest, he was probably most scared of facing Rick in the final, more so than he was of having to get through Murdoc in the final four.
A pathetic cry and a feeble blame brought Justin's attention back to the then and there. "What have you done?" Damian bellowed as Justin's "mom" consoled her business associate, and potential lover. "How could you do such a thing?"
"I just got here Damian, how could I have done this?" Justin questioned back with a devilish grin. "From what I hear, some faulty electrical work that you had been too busy to sign off on getting fixed may be the cause of this fire."
He turned his back to the doctor to look at the fire, something he would have been glad to admit to doing, had he actually done it. There was a lot of happy irony coming from this, but it was the perfect time and place to settle it all for good. "The patients?!" Dr. Sorrow cried out.
"They all made it out and are being transferred to another facility until I can get this place rebuilt." Justin's comment caused a quick glance from both Damian and the woman parading around as Michelle Michaels, Justin's mother. "Oh, you've been too busy holding my father hostage in South Carolina to hear?" He sarcastically questioned. "Southwind Gardens is now a subsidiary of Havoc Entertainment!"
As if they had just heard the worst news of their lives, the unnatural couple turned deathly pale and both of the jaws hit the ground. "It cannot be!"
"Oh, but it is!"
"I... You..." Damian stammered.
Justin knocked on the side of the ambulance that he was leaning up against, and as if it couldn't have been written into a movie script any better, a woman stepped out of the back holding a large box. Short of some messy hair, and no make up, this woman could have been staring into a mirror when looking at who the Michaels, for the last several years, thought to be their mother. "It turns out, Mom did have a sister. Not just any sister, but a twin sister!"
"Michelle look!" The fake Michaels matriarch pleaded as she stared shockingly at her sister.
"Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but it would appear that the REAL Michelle came to you several years ago to beg you to stop your prying into our lives, but a jealous, mostly unstable twin sister was the perfect cover story. You committed Mom under Robin Stiver, my aunt, and pulled the old switch on us." Justin began to tell the tale of how he saw everything unfold. "Since none of us had actually ever met Robin, and my past issue with my parents, you had plenty of time to pull the wool over my eyes, and Aaron, well, that poor kid just assumed his mother had actually started to go crazy."
"You bitch!" The real Michelle dropped the box full of papers, reached back and let out a vicious slap that could have very well knocked all the cheap makeup off of her sister's face.
"None of this is true, Justin, you must believe me!" The doctor begged.
Justin shook his head. "I'll never believe another word that comes out of your mouth after this." He grabbed the box that his mother had carried out with her and sifted through a few of the papers before grabbing a file. "There's enough evidence here to put you way for, well, let's just say you'll probably never get out before you're dead!"
"Those are mine, give them to me!" Damian shouted as he grabbed for the box. His failed strength proved worthless against the younger, much stronger man.
"Actually, they belong to the hospital; which now belongs to Havoc Entertainment." The smile on Justin's face brought so much worthless rage to the old doctor, Justin couldn't help but chuckle. "Which, if you've been paying attention over the year, I own Havoc Entertainment, ergo, all of this is now mine!"
As Damian stood in deafening silence, Justin turned back to the hospital that had begun to fall in on itself. The firefighters on the scene were doing their best to contain the flames, but were unsuccessful at putting it out to leave any salvageable parts of the building. A couple of police officers approached the small group, and an unmarked police car pulled up at the same time. "Are these the two?" Asked one of the officers.
Justin nodded as he turned back to the doctor, a man who at one point Justin trusted with everything. Despite the age difference, Justin even considered a friend. It turns out that, based on the research of all the files Dr. Sorrow had left behind, the friendship was nothing more than a part of Damian research over the years. Justin was only one of several children born thirty to forty years ago to parents who had used an experimental drug that Damian had created.
But not only did he help these couples have children, but he used their information to stalk his prey. In the decades to follow, he was spying on these families and their children, observing their behaviors, and whether or not the children had been stable or become unstable. Unfortunately for those who remained stable, all signs pointed to the "good doctor" introducing factors into their lives to try and force unstable behavior to add to his research.
The officers handcuffed Damian and the woman now known as Justin's aunt Robin and started to haul them to the unmarked police car. Just as they approached, the front passenger door opened and a man that neither Justin nor his mother had seen in quite some time; Justin's father, Gene!
"Michelle!"
"Gene!"
He ran to his wife and wrapped his arms around her, and she to him. Justin rested his right hand onto his dad's shoulder as he turned his attention back to the man that was finally going to answer for all the shit he had put Justin, and so many others through. "Oh, and Damian, all but one patient of Southwind was accounted for. You are going to have to tell me all about Kaden Calix, your secret trip up to Geneva, Nebraska about five years ago, and what the hell happened to a man I thought I was only bringing to you for evaluation all those years ago." Justin's smile turned to a scowl as he brought mention of the young man he recruited from a gym in Athens, Greece back in two thousand and seven.
"I don't know who you are talking..." The doctor couldn't even bring himself to finish his lie.
Justin cocked his head and his eyes narrowed. Despite the intense heat coming off of the burning building, and his desire to get as far away from there as possible, Justin stood his ground as he continued to get all he could out of the moment. "Save it Dr. Sorrow." He said. "Save it for next week!" Justin almost growled when he yelled out those words to his nemesis. "I made sure to convince them to let you watch Living a Legacy while you are behind bars, since we all know how much you enjoy watching. And after you watch me win the Icemann Invitational, again, I'll come back to Wichita, and you can tell me all about this!"
Justin tossed a file folder at Damian's feet. The doctor read the label on the folder's tab and didn't say anything, but the big gulp he took said it all.
Murdoc, Stormm's semi-final opponent in the Icemann Invitation had been the first to be accused of burning the trees that held so many memories for the Michaels, and given his past of conflagration, why shouldn't he have been?
