2:58 a.m.
Judge sat at the side of his bed a bottle of water in his hand, a cold damp rag on the back of his neck, and a machine that helps control his breathing around his face pumping air into his nose.
It was another dream of the same thing it always was, back in Afghanistan with his small group of Marine's during a night mission a simple task of rescuing some POWs. The dream always started the same with them advancing on what appeared to be a empty building. Judge was leader of his team and so he cleared the door first, "Once inside we switch to night vision. Recon says this door is the only none rigged door it's their only way in or out. Vinnie and Red are covering this from that hill above, so once we secure our targets pull orange smoke, and fire into the walls so we can run them out. They won't know what hit them. Secure the POWs first. Hoorah."
They all in unified whispers responded with hoorahs of their own. Judge pushes the door open, sweat pours down his face, and quickly steps in sweeping from left to right as his men follow taking points at different walls. They all switch to night vision and a gunner they call Twitch points to a room above that has bright white light pouring through poorly covered windows. Judge signals for two men to cover the door at the bottom of the steps, he signals the rest to follow him, and they silently run up the steps.
Teddy a big hulking black man removes his goggles to peek through the window, "I confirm I see three green, two red."
The situation sits funny with Judge who pushes the comm on his ear piece, "Tango, this is Judge we've confirmed our targets but only two red enemies, I repeat only two red."
No one replies because outside the building firing begins! The two red targets run for the door and have no time to raise their weapons when Judge opens fire killing them.
"Can I ask who the fuck is firing?" Judge yells into his comm but Vinnie nor Red answer, "Shit go see what's going on Twitch. Dawn lets secure our POWs."
They enter the candle lit room where three people tied to chairs with black bags tied over their heads sit making nervous jerking moves. More gun shots echo through the night and its Twitch who yells in Judges ear, "I'm hit! Goddamn they got the whole building surron-"
He didn't have time to finish before the building was ate up with hell fire that killed Twitch, the two men down stairs, and a stray hitting Dawn who before taking cover knocks over a chair saving a hostage. Judge follows suit saving the other two. The gun shots continue for another minute or two before ceasing the POWs screaming and shaking in fear. They stop and their silence blends into the rest of the eerie silence of that hot night.
The dream was true, the deaths were all true, and up until this one dream of the same dream every night since his last tour the POWs had been the same. Tonight however three things changed instead of the terrorist leader thundering through a bullhorn the voice was that of Jury's robotic voice screaming with rage, "BURN THEM ALL!"
The second change was fast as if Judge was pulled into another dream, he was still in his gear only now he was on the top floor of a burning building, and their were two POWs tied to chairs in the middle of the room. The heat comimg off the fire combined with the Afghan night heat caused Judge to sweat bullets as he crossed the room, "Don't worry men I'm here to save you!"
He let his gun hang off him as he reached out jerking the hoods from their heads and the sight caused Judge to fall back with a scream onto the floor.
"BURN THEM ALL!"
Judge was looking up at the dead bodies of his former allies High Tide and Wasp. Decomposed, their skin graying with mold, and their faces twisted in fear.
"Burn them all!"
Judge fought to get to his feet and he rubbed sweat from his burning eyes, what he wiped away was replaced now with his family sitting in those chairs screaming for him!
"Oh my God, how?" was all Judge could mutter.
"DADDY SAVE US DON'T LET US DIE DADDY!"
Judge reached for them but Jury's voice echoed into the night causing the fire to intensify.
"BURN THEM ALL!"
The fire finally engulfed them all. When Judge sat up in bed, Amanda already awake trying to wae Judge was pushed off the bed, and Judge sprang up from the bed covered in sweat. He reaches for his side arm tucked between his matress and barrels into his hallway pointing the gun.
He could tell he was awake but some of the dream made him see as if he was still in that burning building.
"Girls daddy is here and nothing can hurt you," he screamed ducking behind a chester drawer when a shadow tricked him into thinking he saw an armed man. He fired three shots. The third shot woke him the rest of the way up.
Dazed and confused as to why he had his gun Judge throws up. Amanda comes running past him towards the girls room, the only thing that saved them from getting hurt was their door. Their door caught the bullets.
An hour had passed since the shooting and Judge sat on the edge of his bed as we found him. Amanda came back in and kneeled in front of him, "Jesse are you ok? The girls are finally asleep they said they love you and wanted me to check on you."
Judge just looked at her ad began to weep. She embraced him and let him weep.
MOVES & COUNTER MOVES
"Wake up Maggie I think I got something to say to you.
Its late September and I really should be back at school."
The trigger for his dream Judge figured was a combination of Jury's eerie words and the explosion aimed to send a message to PCW. However the next few days after his discharge of his weapon Judge had stayed away from home on a drinking binge feeling so guilty for scaring his girls. Firing a loaded weapon into his girls room, if he'd hurt them. The shiver that ran down his spine caused him to gasp for air and so he bounded on drunk legs to the deck of his recently purchased ship. He fell into the rails and puked.
After fifteen minutes of regaining his composure and feeling sober the big man returned below deck to complete his main mission. To get awau from his guilt wasn't his only reason for leaving home but Judge had a message to send. A message to all those seeking the tag team titles. He had to be clear that his alliance with Jury was solid, that cutting ties with his former allies was clear.
The bottom of the ship was dark except where his work station was lit by candles and a battery powered lantern. He sat down on his stool and picked up his wire cutters stripping back black covering exposing copper wire, he twisted it with another wire, and finally using a roll of electric tape wrapped it over the twinned wires.
Tossing his tools down he picks up his cell, punches a few numbers, and puts it up to his ear. As it rang he made his way to the deck wondering what he'd say of High Tide picked up, but of course it went to voicemail. Now that e thought about it of Tide had answered Judge would have invited him to the ship. Team meeting. Ka-boom. Message sent?
BEEP!
"Hey Tide it's Judge," he spoke slowly pronouncing every word, hinting a whim of pleasure, "I guess you seen first hand where was at Trauma, right hand too. I believe we had good ideas for our team, maybe we had direction but you know how if you meet someone you like? Boom headfirst into relationship you go, maybe not you but lets just say you for sake of argument. Big moves, you are just head over heels in love everything feels great. Like us, within the week were saying I love you."
The line disconnects with a message about limited message room. Judge calls back.
BEEP!
"Golly they don't give you time, where were we?" Judge asked himself, "Oh love, we have no more Tide. As soon as Jury came along he's already sent a pretty clear message to all of PCW, I buy it. Felt it. I'm apart of it and you are enemy number 1. Well everyone is. I will give you my word I'll try to keep Jury from tearing your head off and coming for that Underground, trust me he sounds pretty adamant about it."
Another disconnection. Judge calls again.
BEEP!
He chuckles, "Why do you have a phone Tidy, and never answer? Ah fuck, I don't know what to do but I'll try. However all is fair game when it comes to the tag belts good sir. We've made the first move..."
Suddenly the boat explodes into the early morning light! The force of the blast knocks Judge down he rolls to his back holding the phone up capturing the roaring blast on message.
"YOU GOT BALLS FOR A COUNTER MOVE TIDE?" Judge has to yell over the moaning of burning wood, "See you at the Iceys Tide!"
