Sooo...did anyone watch NXT? Asuka vs Cross was one of the most entertaining matches I've seen this year. I knew Cross wasn't going to pull it off because they've made it very obvious that Ember Moon is going to be the one to beat her, but damn there were a lot of close calls. There were a lot of stiff spots there too. Has WWE ever really done a hardcore women's match, minus Smackdown this week? The powerbomb onto the chair was my favorite spot. My only gripe is that the ending came too quickly; I was hoping for it to go on longer! Asuka really does deserve that longest title reign accolade though.
Anyone else think they should just move those two, Ember moon, and Ruby Riot up to the main roster? Or, as I've been noticing, NXT operates differently than SD or RAW. The spots seem rougher and more...emotional? It's an overall more enjoyable show. Do they make the talent tone down the spots and storylines for the big shows? I don't understand why they would, but NXT is so much better than the other shows.

The reason there's such a tonal difference between NXT and the main brand is because it's on the WWE network itself and it doesn't have any input from tv executives, or, more importantly, Vince McMahon. Vince doesn't even watch NXT or know much about how it's run. It's basically Triple H's personal ego project. That has it's positive and negative effects since, it's kind of blown up, now Triple H is front and center at everything involving NXT and making sure people know its his baby and thus taking more credit than the NXT performers themselves. But the reason it feels so different from Raw or Smackdown is that Vince pays it no mind at all. Really shows when NXT guys are called up to the main roster and once Vince and his writers get their hands on them they feel completely neutered from what they were.
And my biggest thing about Asuka is that yeah her reign has been strong and she is quite a talent, but all of her matches end that way, sudden and anti climactic. Like her match with Nikki Cross was a crazy spot fest that was harder than any women's match I've ever seen, but that finish just seemed to come out of nowhere, three minutes before the match would have ended in a regular sort of affair. It's a whole thing.

Better late than never! I'm gonna review RAW/SD/NXT tonight and into tomorrow as I got my hulu back.
RAW:
Ok, so...I already said I really like Enzo, but that promo made me like him even more. He's awesome on the mic, and I hope he gets a good showing at the PPV against Cass, win or lose. I think after that promo, he could go far as a mid card heel. The crowd is definitely behind him; I still haven't looked up any of his matches, but his mic work could carry this guy very, very far. "You are nothing more than a 7 foot catch phrase...THAT I WROTE! Ain't nobody goes harder when bouncing a check than ENZO AMORE!" Awesome, awesome, awesome. I will admit the segment went on a little too long. It was almost like he forgot some lines and tried to squeeze them in at the end. He should have ended it with "Casshole."
Heh. I wonder what Enzo jumped off to tackle Cass at that height? Made me chuckle a little bit.
I watched a few old episodes of NXT and caught some Bayley matches, and now I agree; she was portrayed much better in NXT. I will say that I'm starting to become a Nia Jax fan, despite the general feeling by the wrestling community that she's basically going to kill someone with a sloppy move. As far as i've seen though, she's playing the monster role very well. The outcome of the match was sudden, as I'm growing used to when it comes to RAW women's matches, but it served it's purpose. I'm pulling for Sasha to win because I think she's a bigger draw and a much better talent than Alexa Bliss; but I fucking hate Bliss, so maybe she is as good of a heel as everyone says. I'm still not convinced though, I find her boring and very bland in the ring.
As for the Samoa joe/Lesnar vignette, that was put together really well. It's too bad that I don't see Joe having a snowballs chance in hell of winning, because that would be one hell of an accomplishment. Remember when that dude used to fly over the top rope? A guy his size shouldn't be able to do that. He has talent and I want to see him recognized in WWE with a big win, but unfortunately...it's Lesnar. I hope the match is a barnburner though, and it's at least a close bout so Joe still has momentum leaving Balls of Fire. (Heh. My favorite PPV name. Fuck you guys, it's fun.)
I feel like I'm heaping praise on everyone on RAW tonight, but i guess so far it's been a great show. The Miz is a future hall of famer for sure. As if this dude came from The Real World, huh? Thinking back, he's one of the best heels in the modern era. Him as a face? Meh. He just wins more matches clean that way. But Miz gets his ass kicked every match, and still somehow comes out on top when it counts. His comments on Ambrose seemed almost like a shoot; kudos to the writers for playing on the e-wrestling communities feelings on Ambrose, to be fair. Then out comes Rhyno and Slater? It still blows my mind to see Rhyno in WWE. I wish he was heel though so I could see him GORE people for no fucking reason. That's one of my favorite finishers.
Man, Slater is actually pretty decent on the mic. I'm glad they dropped his old gimmick; or should I say, morphed it a little. Heh. "WHEN MY HAND GOES UP, YOUR MOUTH GOES SHUT." Great mic work tonight by all these guys! As for the match itself, I would have rather seen a triple threat at the PPV, since we all know throughout this match that Slater has no chance in hell of winning. Now that I think back, Slater has always been decent in the ring but was always a career jobber. Maybe WWE is aiming to change that? Give the guy a chance. Nothing that I've seen tonight is awe inspiring but he's good. They pushed Christian, one of the most boring pushes I've ever witnessed. He's better than Christian!
Fuck WWE. Rhyno shouldn't be a jobber, he got kicked a few times and he's down for 5 minutes. C'mon. Worst match of the night so far, only because of the ending. And I'm an old bitter ECW fan.
Why the fuck is Titus still around? I remember I saw a WWE live event a few years back and he was still entertaining in the Prime Time Players, but hasnt' everyone who worked with him gotten a curse and disappeared? He reminds me of the werewolf from Underworld 1 as well, so I get an uneasy feeling about him.
This stupid segment where Joe and Brock are going back and forth in basically a schoolyard argument of "I'm better than you!" "Nuh uh!" It's fucking terrible.. I'm so happy Joe stood up they stopped bantering, that was painful to watch. Even after once Joe found him it was kind of silly. I'm glad they have Joe show no fear but what's with Brock not wanting a fight? Seriously? That's his draw, that he's a beast. He should have kept his mouth shut during that segment and let Paul do the talking, and they could have done another big brawl to pull Joe/Lesnar apart.
I didn't even listen to Bray Wyatt. I'm having a really hard time caring, he's just going to lose to Rollins and spout off some bullshit after that makes no sense. The show started out great, but it's failing fast.
Balor vs Cesaro was pretty great. The match itself was entertaining, but for once the mayhem during one of these matches made sense. A nice little finisher sequence for everyone on the outside...except for Jeff Hardy. Anyone else notice that Michael Cole says "JEFF FLIES!" like it's a finisher? Good to see Sampson out there though.
Seeing Apollo Crews...I bet he could beat Strauman in a real fight. Little guy who's jacked like that could probably lift Braun over his head. Well...maybe not. But blah blah blah...squash match essentially. The standing moonsault reversal was fun to watch though! Nicely timed spot by both men. I haven't seen the heel move to pull the opponent up during a for sure pin in a while! That was pretty good. Good ending to RAW. I'll give it a B-. By far the best RAW I've seen since I've started reviewing them here, though.

Late night news.
AJ Styles won the US Title at the MSG House Show last night. Pretty cool. Don't get title changes at house shows often.
Austin Aries asked for his release and WWE gave it to him. Reports say he had a bad attitude backstage. He wasn't happy being kept in the cruiserweight division and saw himself as something more.
The women may be getting their own Royal Rumble match.

Aries is a world class talent. He had every right to be pissed.

Every right to be pissed, yeah. But having a bad attitude back stage does nothing but cause problems. I'm sorry to see him go, I hope he comes back.
As for Styles winning the title, what a crock of fucking shit. They needed to keep that on KO.

Austin is a complainer...he complained in ROH, he complained in TNA or Impact or whatever. In fact, in ROH he was offered a raise and part of the deal was he had to clean up his attitude and he basically told them there is no amount of money that will keep me from complaining when I feel I have a legitimate reason. Or so rumor says. He was criminally misused in WWE though, had a hell of a lot more to offer than being a cruiserweight and sure as fuck didn't deserve to lose to Neville three times. Sorry to see him go. Just proof that once Vince gets ahold of someone, they have to live with his image of them. It's fucking horrible.
I caught a piece of some show, not a WWE show, just a news piece or something about a con...and Roman Reigns and Cesaro happened to be there and they were cutting these brilliant fucking promos on one another...just like almost Rock-worthy! Roman is so quick-witted and Cesaro is even better! But in WWE writers make them say shit they never should and cut their nuts off. Just dreck.
I hate that a title changed hands at a house show because usually it's a bad sign...either the wrestler who lost it is quitting the company OR is about to go out for an injury...and for my money KO should be holding the world title...yes it was nice to give it to a worker like Jinder...but a guy like KO is a guy you want with that title. Such a capable heel...so good in the ring. Jinder should have lost it a month after he got it.
And what the fuck is up with Bray Wyatt...it's like he's got the reverse of the Undertakers old gimmick...he is mystical and supernatural and loses all his damn matches. And he is soooo good on the mic and he deserves so much more than they give him on RAW...makes me so angry.
As for a women's rumble, I'd watch and while I think the best wrestler in the women's division is like Sasha Banks, (I really want to give it to Charlotte Flair but I have seen her botch too often) unless you call up Asuka who is a whole nother level of fucking awesome, I really appreciate Alexa for the classic heel she is...but I am ready for a MONSTER heel in the women's division and that would be Nia Jax!
My two cents.

And don't forget how gold KO is on Talking Smack. Same thing with Baron Corbin.
Note on Aries. New info says he didn't ask for a release, but was happy to be let go. Same reasons + he was upset about losing royalties over the pre-show being left off the WM dvd/blu ray.
But he wasn't well liked backstage at all.
I don't have much to chime in with from RAW other than I loved the Lesnar segment.

For what it's worth, KO isn't currently injured, as he is still competing just fine at house shows, so he either pissed somebody off for them to jump the gun or maybe I dunno they're just trying to make it seem more important because it's MSG. They do try to make house shows relevant with a title switch or like a Rock appearance sometimes, maybe that's it.

One thing I read about that (and it likely isn't the only reason) is they will be putting out a DVD set on Styles and the title change is another highlight they can put on there.

Speculation on the Kurt Angle storyline which is apparently gonna go out in the open in a segment next week on Raw is that it will be Stephanie and they will reveal her and Kurt have been having an affair, which will lead to Triple H coming back and wanting to fight Kurt. And.
Nooo. Noooooo. I need less Mcmahons on my tv. Drama between general managers got played the fuck out by 2004. And Triple H is way less deserving of a spot as a huge storyline fixture than he thinks he is.
Another option, since she's doing work with WWE for documentaries is Dixie Carter. She is out of a job now...

I could see them bringing in Dixie Carter and just making her look completely terrible. A big "We won, you lost, now we'll sign your check to admit it and look bad every week" kind of thing.

It's a total Vince move to hire Dixie as a GM, sort of like 'You thought you were competition? Here publicly eat a big plate of shit!" At least she will only be acting as the manager, it will still be Vince fucking things up from head office.

I heard that Dixie Carter will actually be appearing on the AJ Styles DVD documentary...
It leaves little to the imagination that Dixie Carter will be revealed as some sort of acquaintance of Angle, be it romantically or otherwise. If the segment with Angle on the phone was anything to go by, saying that they'll make their announcement "together," in such a delicate and soft tone of voice as if he really was talking to a woman.
Because TNA became Impact Wrestling... and now Impact Wrestling is going to be called something else (if it hasn't already, I really don't care) then apparently the WWE are going to start referring to TNA by name. All indications show that Dixie is heading for WWE...

Now this I can get behind.
It looks like the Summerslam main event will be a fatal four way for the Universal Title.
Lesnar v Joe v Roman v Braun

It's going to be an awesome match. As much as I am not a Roman Reigns fan, I have to admit the guy puts on some damn good matches. I'd like to see the finish come down to Joe and Braun and set up the feud between Reigns and Lesnar without the title on the line. The other option is that Lesnar holds the title for another 8 months and I don't like that option.

Yeah, I think the Roman hate is just instinct now. He really is a great performer.
I think lesnar vs Braun would be great to see. That's a tough pick all around though. Braun would be dominating as a champion.
